Chapter 1: The Lost Essences of Time - The Man Who is Foreign to Realistic Dreams

The silence of the unknown expectation filled the tension with the darkness of the unholy night, that was typical experience of Gotham City. On top one of the many buildings, a black fluttered by the sudden turns of the winds as the man within the dark suit was none other than Batman, the protector of Gotham.

Beside him was his partner Robin, wearing a yellow and black hoodie cape, with a red shirt , black pants and finally green military boots. The boy couldn’t be older than 11 as he glared through his white lenses of his green mask as he looked down at the hidden meeting within one of the many alleys within the Gotham Streets. The meeting was none other than a meet up with a Mafia group and one of the Asian Gangsters, it wasn’t typical, however… during the deep crisis within the blackmail district there was word that these meetings held in the darkest of nights.

They spoke in whispers as soon as they left to follow the Asian group.

It was all a wait and see project, Batman needed evidence to provide to the central police of Gotham, it was asked specifically from Gordon himself. Gordon and his men have been tracking this black market for ages and one by one with the help of Bird of Prey, they succeeded, though at this very moment Barbara was busy and had asked favors from him, knowing how it end, Dick agreed.

The winds were cold as another winter had came to pass, Damian let out a breath of aggravation as he continue to watch from his binoculars. He was free from the Titans as of late, he wouldn’t stop complaining if he were asked about them, the boy wouldn’t trust anyone or anything… but Bruce seem to have an idea of who Abuse was and didn’t tell Dick anything more than he was trustworthy enough if Damian thought so. He stood as Damian was still crouching, like his father, he spoke little to none on a mission unless it was use deliberately to insult him, his enemies or just Tim. He was dedicated, just like Tim when he was a Robin, but he was always too angry for his own good, Jason had joked he may died of a stroke because of just because how Damian was made.

As time pass nothing had changed as of much, they needed to get one of the insiders and force him to talk and that unlucky man would be Robert Suezes. One of the many corrupted politic figures in the world and he was the one in control of the Law Force in the government…

Minutes turned to hours, the night turned the of the dark mornings and the weather only got colder but at least the winds had died out.

“ -Tt- What the hell are we waiting for? The man isn’t going to get away with this easily. There’s no big exit within the building, unless he wishes to fall to his untimely doom, but in the finality Grayson… what are we doing here, wouldn’t it be better to play a disguise? We’d get the information a hell of a lot more faster, if you ask me.”

Dick rolled his eyes as Damian finish speaking “That’s why we’re here… Cassandra has already infiltrated the premises within the last couple of months, she’s already recording the discussion, but we on the other hand have to get some dirt from the big man himself… if we fail this, we’ll have a big bad mark on our record and I know how you feel about failures, your daddy sure wouldn’t like it.” He teased the ending of his monotone voice, as Batman he have to be so much more rigid but he still was much more softer than The Batman ever was, he truly missed being Nightwing as he could do quart-backflips and they were much funnier than swooping like a bat.

“Cassandra? Why did no one tell me about her in this?” Damian demanded in most obvious of demanding voices, at least he demanded a little less after their first meeting or the god forbid event with nearly-killing-Tim-&-Alfred which was Bruce’s first time.

Dick blatantly ignored him as they continue surveying  the group activity.

Since they were on the mission was one of the only reason Damian had only grumbled silently, instead of insisted on the question at hand. They had learn what happen when Damian became a bit out of hand… Being prideful as he was, it became less frequent on their silent mission nights.

The clock had finally turned to 1:46am as the men had exit to their separate ways… every 20 minutes a small part of the group had left, the briefcases were switch as Andrea Salvatore, the leader of the small Mafia group left with Robert’s imports. But after another good 60 minutes, Robert had left with a single man, or better yet… their insider Cassandra… She had the best history of infiltrating, Dick couldn’t help but smirk as they were heading to the meeting point at City Hall District.

They only had so much time, as the Black Market was seemingly making some type of biological weapon, which was much more threatening than some druggies dealing, but words of rumors will always be rumors unless they found the truth.

Finally passing one of the Public Library to the next corner, Batman had signaled Robin to follow him as he shot his grappling hook to swoop down right in front of Robert who stumbled backwards with a distinguish ‘Aiiahhh--.’.

Cassandra stood passively as she took out her gun to aim it at him, while Robin had arrived behind the three with arms crossed and smirking like he had won something. The act was perfect… Cassandra was still needed within the Black Market spying, so without hesitation she shot and fell back as Batman attacked looking like a strong punch to the gut. The man tried to run but Robin had threw his lasso to stop the man in his track… Batman didn’t like the look Damian was giving the man, it probably means that he’s ready to get another wrench.

“Get away from me! Get away from me, yo-you freaks! What are you doing?! You know I can get you all sent to jail!” The man pleads were annoying his side-kick as the smile became more wickedly disturbing…

Batman took his steps patiently as he walked closer to the important politic figure, he was giving his little annoyed frown and then he finally spoke with a growled voice “… Mr. Suezes… I’d hate to break this to you, but unless you want my little twisted bird on your shoulder… I’d mind you, to get the prospective in your head, because it’s either this or your way home to nice small jail room. So the deal is up… what is it that you’re planning?!”

He grabbed Robert by his collar forcing them to look, the man was sweating profoundly as his eyes would move anyway but into Batman’s eyes.

“Okay… Okay… I’ll tell you.” The man stuttered to say. It look like Robin’s torturing tactics were very well known, not that Dick was at all bothered by that seeing how it wasn’t his thing to do it.

“Better start talking… we don’t have all morning.” Robin said with great arrogance as his smiled showed his fangs.

Getting to a more comfortable sitting position with fear in his words and expression he confessed “The guys and I were talking… there seems to be a more fitting way of enhancing soldiers in the war, I don’t exactly know the guy who’s behind it-but… his experiments have proven his more than worthy of his word. But honestly I don’t know anything else.”

The piercing sound of the clashing of metal and concrete struck the ears of everyone there, Robert eyes had widen as in front of him was none other the sharp end of the sword which Robin held. Robert shook his head, again and again, muttering: how it wasn’t possible, it couldn’t be possible…

It meant nothing to Robin as he spoke demandingly “Tell us, or you leave with multiple stab wounds or a vegetated body. One way or another I will get the satisfying pleasure of punishing you. Because everything I just heard was a single and most obviously a lie.”

“…” Batman remained silent, there was something that seem out of place as the war didn’t need anymore foundations and even though it was a far-fetch possibility of starting another illegal market or starting a new war, Robert Suezes wouldn’t do it without good reason… he was corrupted in a unique way, maybe even similar to a Luthor.

Robert breath out more deeply than before as he was choosing his words carefully “I’m not exactly sure, but… Hellfern, the subordinate of some-one within one of the many eastern connections, has made some sort of meta-type power medicine, it could help improve the war situation that is bound to come.”

“-Ttch- He’s full of bull.” Mumbled Robin as he looked away and walked behind Batman, Batman merely glared at the man.

“What war?”

“Any really… But there seems to be more freaks than the Justice League, Teen Titans and Outsiders combine, that’s why I’m working with him… it’s only for a good cause. We don’t need more Doomsday freaks.” Robert continued as he looked somewhat mad within the darkness of the dark morning.

Slowly Cassandra got up as she held her side… Batman look towards her and she flickered her eyes for him to go. They had gotten all that they could of, Robin wasn’t happy of it but caught the signal as well.

“Count this your lucky day…” Robin coldly said as he and Batman finally swoop away from the alley. Once again Cassandra was left with the lunatic… Around one of the abandon dead-ended streets they finally hopped into the Batmobile, they past to turbo immediately so they could get home earlier. The drive went in silence if it were excluded the grunts coming from Damian as he looked out the window not facing him.

“… What are we doing? Cass should already have enough info for the rest of the mission.”

Dick sighed under his mask, it was never easy to deal with Damian and especially when it dealt with one of the very few people he’d enjoy company of, he didn’t turn though as the speed of the car went to a normal kilometer miles an hour and said “ You know this is a delicate situation… Cass will be fine, we’ll probably see her within the end of the month, .. if everything goes well.”

The road was at it’s pre-final curve as the road was always abandoned, but driving was a typical problem if one wasn’t use to such travels.

So when they were arriving to the peak view of the Mansion but before they could react suddenly in front of them was a dog like creature as the light from the headlights reflected within the golden eye creature. But with a kick to the breaks the overhang barely touch the fox shaped creature.

“God damnit…” Was all Dick could muttered as he could barely believe what had nearly happen to the two of them. The fox didn’t seem effected by of the possibility of how the turn of events could have been, then again it was an animal.

“Ninetails?” Damian scoffed, Dick turned to him with a skeptical look as the boy had reference a Pokémon…

But Dick turned his head back to notice the fox was no ordinary fox, yellow and white could be distinguish but what he couldn’t believe he had overlook was that it held gigantic nine bushy tails which was tall as it’s own body.

“So what do we do… the stupid thing doesn’t seem like it wants to move.”

Dick rolled his eyes for what seemed like the fifth-thousandth time this day “We’ll just scare it.” He spoke as he began to beep his car horns. It only ended up making large amount of annoying noise as the creature seemed once again unaffected.

Damian scoffed in bits of laugh with a sarcastic remark “Of course… it work like a charm. Let’s just bloody hit the thing, then it will get the idea.”

“We’re not getting sued for animal cruelty… get it out of your head, geez.” Dick said as he open the car of the Batmobile to face the animal with an never changing expression. As he walk forward he silently hope the animal would not bite him or be a familiar of some of the evil witches of the gods. He walked silently while at the same time Damian was following suit and then…

… The animal turned to him with a sharp expression as it’s golden eyes glared into Dick’s soul. With only that did Dick feel like he had lost his footing and before he knew it he was watching the dark night skies become oddly distant as he heard Damian’s screams. And with that second later had he fell into a grass land with a jolt.

The darken skies were no longer filled with darkness as they were replaced with the vastness of glowing and shining stars beside a crescent moon.

The air within the starry sky was much, much more cleaning than Dick could ever imagine a forest to be. He could barely process that they had fallen into a forest as he could hear Damian getting up and yelling with annoyance “COME BACK HERE! I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL KILL YOU!!” He did not like Metas anymore than Bruce did… but Dick couldn’t comprehend what the creature had said to him within those very short seconds… or was it all in his head?

“Grayson get up! We don’t have time to lay down. We have to find that blasted fox and show it not to screw with us again!” Damian spoke with a growl in his voice… he had also kick him and with that Dick had started to get up.

“I don’t think we’ll find it, Damian… I don’t even think we’re in America if you ask me. The stars are aligned completely different now… … if anything I think we’re somewhere in the Eastern States.” Dick spoke as he was observing the alignment of the stars, which match perfect in his old night missions in Asia… No, they were nowhere near America, the creature had sent them some part of Eastern Hemisphere and Dick could only let out a breath of surprise as his shoulder dropped into confusion.

“Welcome to Gensokyo. Enjoy your stay as you look for an escape.”

Those were the words the fox had spoken… a world that was only a myth among the magician world. Dick was skeptical though… he had once played a game called Touhou… and he didn’t like where this was going to. Was he in an alternative universe or was Gensokyo the real deal… as he turned his eyes to his brother and partner, he wonder if Damian knew any Japanese, because this was bound tro become a long trip, because even if it were a fantasy; they fantasy had become real.

“Hey… Dammy, what do you think of loli-girl demons?”

Damian turned to him with a skeptical look.
