the History of Sex

Summer's here and I've been reading Archaeology magazine a lot. A few interesting things that I already knew but decided to share here (explanation to follow).

The Egyptian god Atum masturbated to create the two first human beings - who sprung from his semen.

Egyptians believed in sex life after death: Egyptian men had false penises attached to their mummies while Egyptian women had artificial nipples attached. Both would become fully functional in the afterlife, where they were free to engage in sexual intercourse, if they so desired.

Herodotus talks about someone in Egypt needing to be healed by putting the urine of a virgin in his eyes - throughout all of Egypt, he couldn't find a virgin anywhere.

The sexual art of the Egyptians is RIDICULOUS - seriously. Look it up, I don't have the energy to put pictures up here.

The Egyptians were so free with their sexuality. So much that we today cannot understand it. But, there's an interesting twist. The ancient Egyptians absolutely despised adultery. They were probably the most free sexual culture in history - but when they chose to commit, they were absolutely committed. It's interesting - it's something that I've been striving, and will continue to strive to understand.

FYI: (Also, the Ancient Greeks invented dildos - did anyone else know that? Unhappy married Greek women apparently went to their shoe-maker and asked him to make one. The women refered to it as a "pacifier" as a joke.)

Anyway, that's probably my tidbit of the year (unless I chose to update more often - stuff like this is seriously all I think about lately - history and how it applies to me).

I'm going to a wedding with Jacob Saturday! I've never been a date to a wedding (it's one of those cute afternoon ones). I love weddings. I thought about being a wedding planner or even a cake designer... Cody will probably be there. Maybe with his girlfriend. Which is interesting - he has been pretty intent on hooking up with me in the last few months. I don't care - I just want to see a damn wedding!

I miss Ryan and I'm trying not to dwell on the fact that he could be going to Iraq and not Tulane in the fall... It's sad, it hurts, I cried last night (about other things too... it takes a lot to make me cry lately), but I'll get over it and live. It sucks, yeah, but the longer we're apart and not speaking the better it is for me to cope, and I know it.

I'm quitting my job at Super 1 sometime this week... finding a replacement job has not been successful, so I've decided to work full-time at Loadmaster. I'm guaranteed 50 hours a week at $8 an hour. I sit in my own cubicle with my own computer in a nice little air-conditioned room with a view (second floor - whoop!) The weird thing is that the surrounding cubicles are filled with 30-something year old male drafters. But, the one who sits across from me is cute (married), and friendly, so it's all cool. And I carpool with the bro - so I don't even have to pay for gas to get to work. Excellent.

Did I mention my new Prius? It's pretty.

I've been working out for at least 45 minutes every day plus 20 minutes of yoga... which only gives me enough time to work, workout, and sleep in the coming months. It'll be interesting. Archaeology magazine and vogue will save my assssssss. Oh, and Starbucks.
