Katniss had left the execution, and ended up in District Twelve. If asked, she had little to no idea how she'd gotten here, honestly. People kept filtering in and out of her home in the Victor's Village, but mostly she noted the absences

Having spoken to Kennedy earlier, Wesley was determined to do something that would be of help to Katniss. So he came upstairs with a large glass of water and Kennedy's advice in mind: Don't give in.

Even though it was near-physically painful not to preface the request with a "please" or some sort of question word, he instructed her softly, "Drink this."

Alex was berating herself for not being here sooner. There was nothing she could have done to help; that wasn't her letting herself off the hook, either. She could no more have saved Prim than she could have grown wings. She had never felt more useless.

She had decided to sit vigil in a chair at the foot of Katniss's bed, still and waiting.
