Hypocracy. Double Standards, and Protected Classes

Jun 22, 2009 15:18

So... I'm reading about some Warholian-nothing "Perez Hilton" (such a non-entity that his pseudo-identity is derivative of someone of questionable legitimacy herself these days) who got punched in the Black Eyed Peas manager...
Now all in all this sounds like someone who was talking shit, and then got the police involved when things got out of hand... Which's reasonable, if not exactly honorable or mature... But...

Perez Hilton, who's currently in a legal trouble with some guy he screwed and made pornos of on the premise of making this guy famous, ADMITS to calling will.i.am of the black eyed peas "gay" and a "faggot." Now, because he doesn't make public business of it like Perez I've no idea what will.i.am's sexual leanings are... But, how is it that anyone else in the public eye would be hanging from the noose of public opinion if they were using these words in this context, but this guy skates? What about the black guy from Greys Anatomy (not to just label people by their race, but I don't know the guys name, have never seen the show, and think the whole incident was stupid so I'm not going to waste the time googling it)?

Now, I myself am not a thought-nazi, and I try not to read too much into things. However, there is an obvious double standard by which some people are not allowed to even utter certain words, and other people are allowed to use them in full derogatory context, and then flaunt the fact afterwards...

To those people who want certain words to move out of common usage.. I urge you to police your own community, because otherwise you're just setting yourself up as a special "protected" class, which is something that Americans really resent, dispite the rise of such PC bull since the 60's. Don't try and have your cake and eat it too...
I would say look back at Richard Pryor, once he saw the gravity with which the N-Bomb fell he stopped using it. For that, and a number of other courageous things I respect Pryor greatly, and I think I'm not alone in that.

Anyway, score one more for the special rights crowd... And one less for those who really strive for equality.
Thanks for dragging us all down with you "Perez"
