General Issue (Death or Life We Want You)

Oct 22, 2010 15:00

[This is a music mix for
mumblemutter, the second of three mixes commissioned in the help_pakistan auction (these were all supposed to be done my October 1st, I know; the delay on this one was finding time to sit down to write the accompanying fic). The request I went with was "the soundtrack of Clay and Roque's doomed love"; so this is a fucked-up passion sort of mix skewed towards them and my reading of their arc before and during the movie, but you certainly don't have to care about The Losers at all to enjoy this shiny 14-track .zip].

General Issue (Death or Life We Want You) -

First of all, the fic: General Issue on AO3. Contains references to suicide and substance abuse and implied violence and one sentence of moderately graphic sexual activity. Fic and mix should be mutually complementary but not mutually dependent.
All screencaps are from The Losers (2010, Warner Bros. pictures) and appear in the same sequence that they do in the film.

1. The Nields, Art of the Gun
funny how this begins
holding court over a bottle of gin, he says
"you don't know what it's like to be me"

2. Billy Bragg, Island of No Return
pick up your feet, fall in, move out
we're going to a party way down south
me and the corporal out on a spree
damned from here to eternity

3. The Dears, Death or Life We Want You
I want your body
I want your brains
I want your soul, brother
on a thirsty desert plain
or maybe even in the jungle, face-down in a lagoon
or a tough fight with your best friends if there's any room

4. Veda Hille, Veterans of Foreign Wars
serpentine, reconnaissance, move crazy so they can't follow us
those sirens overhead are supersonic
you bring the gin, I'll bring the tonic

5. Wax Mannequin, Volcano God
Volcano God, Volcano God
your appetite grows stronger with each morsel that you're fed
Volcano God, Volcano God
praise you with my screams 'til you decide to make me dead

6. The Raconteurs, Broken Boy Soldier
I'm child and man and child again
the toy broken boy soldier
I'm child and man then child again
the boy never gets older

7. Fiona Apple, Parting Gift
I opened my eyes while you were kissing me once, more than once
and you looked as sincere as a dog
just as sincere as a dog does when it's the food on your lips with which it's in love

8. Old 97's, The New Kid
I tell you again, don't get too settled in
you will be replaced, you will be replaced

9. Skunk Anansie, Carmen Queasy
my vision is distorted by my sleazy mind
too picturesque an image to control this time
my intimate discriminating fears you test
my ignorance, I truly feel it knows me best
you have the power, but you keep it all to yourself
your lust is decomposing us

10. Juliette Lewis, Hardly Wait
it's been so long, I've lost my taste
say "angel come", said "lick my face"
let fall your dreams, I'll play the part
I'll open this mouth wide, eat your heart

11. Sneaker Pimps, Bloodsport
sex and love is not a game
a game is something you can win
maybe something kind of fun
love is just a bloodsport, son

12. Placebo, Protege Moi
C'est le malaise du moment
L'épidémie qui s'étend
La fête est finie on descend
Les pensées qui glacent la raison

13. Mirah, 100 Knives
You were trying to kill me
With a hundred knives
You were trying to kill me
In my heart one hundred times

14. Firewater, I Still Love You, Judas
ask me no favors, I'll never say no
we'll sleep by the wishing well
over the rainbow, a shot in the dark
one more story to tell

'cause I, I still love you, Judas
I fell like a hammer for the spike
