It's New Year's Eve Eve, Livejournal. Got those resolutions ready? I was just lounging around here, munching on my Fun Size Milky Way and wondering what exactly I want to resolve to do in 2009. Resolutions just make me feel flawed. There's too much thinking of what you've done wrong, not enough thinking about what you've done right. 2008 wasn't my best year. I'm still trying to find my footing after leaving school and coming back and constantly being reminded that I missed things and people are different. I've lost close friends that I'm only now starting to get back. I've lost myself a little bit. Meh. But I've done stuff too, not gonna pretend my whole year was miserable. There were lots of firsts, new obsessions, new shoes, new insiders. But hey, it shouldn't be hard to make '09 better than '08. I guess I could look at that as good. Right? Right.
Who're my idols of 2008? Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Rapp, Diablo Cody, Jonathan Tropper, Bryan Fuller, Tim Burton.
Now let's break that down.
Lin-Manuel Miranda: actor, writer, composer, lyricist.
Adam Rapp: novelist, playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker.
Diablo Cody: screenwriter, writer, blogger, journalist.
Jonathan Tropper: screenwriter, writer, English professor.
Bryan Fuller: screenwriter, television producer.
Tim Burton: film director, screenwriter, film producer.
HMM...6/6 are writers in some way. 5/6 are screenwriters. How much does this say about me? Quite a bit...Despite total and complete nonstop failure at life, 2008 has been my biggest writing year. It is incredible how much of it does not completely suck. 80% of it may be too angsty, morbid, and dry to be appreciated by people, but there is that 20%. It's more than nothing. So maybe I'll be okay in the world of writing thanks to 2008. At least it's done something for me.
