WTF, brain?
So I read this fic about the crew of Deep Space 9 playing a holo novel of The Avengers and, while I was super amused by it and would gladly read more if the author wrote more, I had other ideas about some of the character match-ups. Now I'm writing a Star Trek/Avengers fusion and I have no one to talk to about it.
I started thinking that Miles O'Brien would naturally be Agent Phil Coulson, since they are both the Everyman. But then my feelings about Keiko/Kira/Miles bumped up against my feelings about Clint/Natasha/Phil and I knew I had to get Keiko involved. I had a flash of Keiko as the understated agent, and Miles as the careworn sniper; it's pretty easy to see Kira as the highly-trained femme fatale with the shady past. This also works because the many DS9 "Do Terrible Things to O'Brien" episodes makes it feel right for Miles to get alien mind controlled. (Although, in canon, it was Keiko that got possessed...) (Also, Miles is a cellist. See how it fits?!)
I didn't think Julian Bashir was showboat-y enough to be Tony Stark, but he is a genius scientist who was hiding his illegal genetic modifications from the authorities, and he did bring medicine to impoverished/developing places. So Bashir could totally be Bruce Banner, which means that Elim Garak could be Betty Ross and Enabran Tain could be General Ross.
I didn't know who I was going to cast as Tony Stark, but I saw Neelix as Happy Hogan and the EMH Doctor as JARVIS. With that in mind I wanted someone from Voyager as Iron Man. I thought of Tom Paris and his daddy issues, but Tom wasn't an engineer. So it somehow became B'Elanna Torres as Tony Stark and Tom Paris as Pepper Potts. The EMH Doctor took Yinsen's place, but was fused with Dr. Zimmerman (his in-universe creator) so he could have a damn name. I ended up going with The Computer as JARVIS, but kind of fused with Number One (hey, Majel Barrett played them both) so she could have a damn name. Obadiah Stane is still Obadiah Stane, because I couldn't think of anyone in Star Trek who would be a good fit for him.
I liked the idea of Worf as Thor, and that meant that Jadzia Dax would be Jane. I'm thinking Geordie LaForge as Eric Selvig. I don't know about Darcy. Leeta would be amusing, but I'm also leaning toward Tora Ziyal, because she needs more fic where she's alive. The Sword of Kahless could be Mjolnir. Worf could be on Earth because of Klingon politics. Kang, Koloth, and Kor could be the Warriors 3, and K'Ehleyr could be Sif, Or maybe Tasha Yar could be Sif.
I'm picturing Picard as Fury and Odo as Maria Hill. I'm thinking of Sisko as Captain America and maybe Jake as Bucky. Curzon Dax could be Colonel Phillips or Dr. Erskine.
