How has technology changed the way you watch movies and listen to music?

One of the big changes is that since I listen to songs on my computer I have all these different artists and eras on the same playlist. It's not like when I had to pop an individual CD (or even cassette tape, back when there was no internet and we all wore cavebear skins) into a player and only hear one artist for the next hour or so. I almost don't think about this anymore because I am so used to my winamp playlist, but it's nice to not have to sit through the one song I hate on any given album.

Steaming media had played a role as well: I really like Pandora because it brings me stuff that's like the stuff I already am into, but it's new to me. I'm not terribly adventurous with music- I tend to listen to the same 70-song playlist every day for months with very little change, so Pandora is a great way to have my comfort zone and variety too.

I've also had a Netflix subscription for a few months and I think it's one of the greatest things ever. My house decided to discontinue our cable service because we were essentially paying about $60/ month for five channels that we actually watched. Netflix has been a more than adequate replacement for that because we can watch things on the living room tv through the X-Box. It's great to no longer have the feeling that I'm paying media companies to make shows/air movies that I think are garbage. And I love that with streaming video you don't have to worry about whether someone else got the last copy on the shelf. The only downside is no optional subtitles, which are nice if the characters have thick accents or the sound engineering downplays the voices.
