...right, I have NO sympathy for people with illnesses. :P I leave the intelligent to draw their own conclusions on the subject.
At least it made me laugh.

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

(thanks, bubukity!) "UNITED NATIONS - Global poverty can be cut in half by 2015 and eliminated by 2025 if the world’s richest countries including the United States, Japan and Germany more than double aid to the poorest countries, hundreds of development experts concluded in a report Monday."
So...let's do it, then. Of course, we'll need to raise taxes...heck, there are plenty of rich people here in the States who aren't paying their fair share. About time we make them, don't you think?
I wonder if this will even enter the Republican conciousness? I doubt it.
"Among the hardest hit [by security measures for the inaugeration] of District residents: the homeless, who will find many of the services they need curtailed because charitable groups can't get through the security barriers erected downtown."

'Cause schools in Texas don't have enough to deal with... "AUSTIN -- Texas school districts would be required to include the body mass index of students as part of their regular report cards under a bill introduced by a lawmaker seeking to link healthy minds with healthy bodies."
Those poor kids! It'll only make the kids who know they're fat feel bad, and it'll give the bullies another thing to tease kids about. So what, precisely, is the point?
I'm all for schools taking a more active part in keeping kids healthy. There are just so many better ways to do it. Like gym classes that take into account what students are actually capable of. Or school lunches that are actually nutritious but still taste good. Or more before-school breakfast programs. How about after-school supper programs? I bet a LOT of parents would sign up for that one. How about teaching kids that cookies and chocolate milk are not the ultimate snack?
Recording BMI isn't going to do a bit of good, and it'll waste precious dollars. Schools never have enough money, so why make them waste more?
This is very cute. I think you should all go check it out.
