Month of TMBG, week 1

Jul 19, 2007 03:25

Okay, so I can't even talk about the amazingness of the set. Because they played the set, and it was good, and kinda short, and then Flans said "okay, thanks for coming, goodnight."

Then the crew dudes set up more microphones and distributed the encore setlists about the stage (which we could see because we were, oh, right in front of Flansberg. BillChas almost got beaned by the baby blue guitar, and he probably bled on us when he cut his finger playing so hard. But I digress.) THERE WERE EIGHT SONGS ON THE ENCORE LIST.

This is when They Might Be Giants returns to the stage, with a HORN SECTION.

Museum of Idiots
Ant
Bee of the Bird of the Moth
Withered Hope
Istanbul
(the brass vacated the stage here)
With the Dark
(The Guitar was on the list here, but they didn't play it)
The Mesopotamians

BillChas saw the setlist and almost passed out. I was awestruck until they got to Istanbul. I think Linnell thought we were high. Oh, and the sax player totally got a kick out of how much fun we were having. The closest I've ever come to an orgasm just from listening to music.

Next week is the 90's retrospective. Should be good times. Apollo 18, John Henry and Factory Showroom all have some nifty material on them. On August 1, the theme is "80's songs we still remember how to play and a horn extravaganza." Plus the opener that day is The Last Car, which is Flansburgh's wife's band. They are hysterical and sing about Mr. T. If you live in NYC and you are not a retard, you will buy a ticket to see them on the 1st before they sell out. TMBG is an incredible show; with horns they will make you weep like a small child who has just received a pony for its birthday (no monkey bits attached). Plus, they will definitely play No One Knows My Plan, which is a fucking awesome song and has a ballsout horn section.

If you are in town and you do not come, you are dumb and I will not speak to you for at least 12 hours. After which I will mock you ceaselessly for having missed an awesome show.

If you're insane, you'll buy tickets to all three. We will be there (me, BillChas, and Sky), but then, we are insane.
