I struggled with this too trying to figure out why I couldn't get access to the fic challenges, the bonus challenge or the poll this time unlike all the previous times. They're all friends locked this time around making them invisible or inaccessible. Also to add to the strangeness I was defriended and had to resign up to the community. Not certain if this was a snafu on LJ's part or not but it means that unless people are friended now they won't see the fic postings or participate in the com.
So I'm not the only one - I'm not sure if that's re-assuring or scarier :-) Have you been participating in all (or enough) of the fic challenges? Then there's no reason you should have been de-friended. At least I can understand why it happened to me, though I would have thought they'd have waited until the month was over, at least. I was hoping to still participate in this month's bonus challenge.
I think there's been some mistakes - the fic postings are supposed to be public, regardless - anyone can read and vote, not just participants. And if you'd been removed without cause that is very odd. And I would have thought also I would have been notified that I'd been removed.
Oddly, I'm still a member of my team!
Hope we get some clarification from a mod at some point. With the holidays it's understandable if they're too busy or not available right now.
Actually, that isn't because I pasted it into rich text mode. For whatever reason, when I go in and edit a perfectly fine post, it does this. It's a quirk of LJ we ran into last Cycle.
The difficulty with this glitch is that the only ways to fix it are to nix the original post and repost anew, or jump in and hand edit the whole thing line by line. So, no easy fix.
I did the latter. And it took a while. But all the posts should read fine now.
Sine people didn't see these in their F-list when they were originally posted and Holmsian News didn't pick it up for the same reason you might want to do a new open to all post that says that they stories have been posted and links back to them so people who don't realize they are up have a chance to find out.
Discuss fics for this round... just be sure not to reveal identities.

Alright, there WAS a difference in the way I'd posted them. Mea Culpa. It's fixed now and you all should be able to access the ficcage!
Let me know if there are any other snafu's.
