Hey Everyone,
Today, im going to vent about something that maybe a lot of people haven't thought about much..........baseball and steroids. Yes, a lot of people that I know don't like baseball, but I happen to be a huge baseball fan and a fan of the Tigers and the Yankees. Steroids bulk people up and apparently help them gain more power in order to hit more home run and in hindsight, get more money in contract dollars. Yesterday, Congress brought this problem to the nation's attention by bringing in former and current MLB players to talk about the issue. Most all of the players denied the allegations except one.....Mark McGwire. Those who don't know him, he was the guy who hit 70 home runs in 1998. He got up in front of Congress and basically admitted to doing steroids, which is wrong. It is cheating. It is sad to see young players in sports, even going back toward high school, using these drugs to get bigger and better supposedly. It is good that they are bringing this to our attention, but do we have to at the expense of our tax dollars??? We have more problems going on right now in the world that is a little bit more important that baseball, but we also need to make this known. I don't know why it had to go through Congress, personally, i don't believe that the government should get involved in sport, two totally different entities and once you get in front of the panel, normally the players don't say anything anyway that is worth anything. If you want to get some real definitive answers, pull aside the doctors and trainers that are involved with getting these players, these "icons", the drugs. I like that I know what is going on, but not at the expense of the tax dollars, even though we are supposed to be in a major debt so really we shouldn't have time to be using money on this issue. As far as the baseball issue itself goes, Mark McGwire was a guy I admired because of the great feat he accomplished, but by him not taking a stand on this issue, he makes me wonder if his records are legit. Yes, we all know Jose Canseco took steroids, as he admitted on tv and in his new book, but how about instead of trying to blame all of these athletes who couldn't give a damn anyway because they are already getting their money and are millionaires, how about we clean up the game that many love so dearly by doing more drug-testing and having tougher suspensions for offenders. The children are the ones that are suffering the most because they are impressionable and they will try to get the anabolic or regular steroids and end up dying because of withdrawals or staying on them too much. Too many people have died using this drug and it urks me that our athletes have to use this drug to get ahead and then have the nerve to lie to the public about it when it is very apparent that its been used. Hey MLB, take a note from players such as Carlos Beltran, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter........excellent players...........high priced players.................non steroid users. If I have to take testing for acting, sports can have tougher testing as well. On that note, im going to watch the NCAA Tournament and get ready to bowl. Thank you all for reading this, good bye.
