The Second Original Fiction Drabble-thon!

Sep 02, 2009 12:49

Hey all! Becky/ruffwriter again. Since we all had so much fun last time and I know we're all being pummeled by classes and work, the Original Fiction Drabble-thon is coming back for another go! The idea of this is to write something, anything at all, with your own original characters.

(And since someone asked, I'll clarify: it's perfectly okay to play with OCs you created for a pre-existing canon, especially if said canon has a sprawling universe like, say, Harry Potter or Avatar. In that case, though, I'll ask that it just stick to your OCs without any of that canon's characters showing up.)

It doesn't matter whether it's a few words or a few pages, or whether it's a pre-existing project or a new one that just popped into your head. Don't worry about whether or not it seems confusing out of context. Anything goes!

(For those of you coming back, the rules are basically the same, but I added a few things.)

Interested? Here's how to play:

We'll be sort of following the format of a "prompt tree," and woodburner wrote up a good explanation of that here. However, we're going to be messing with it a bit. We obviously can't start with fandoms or characters, so the comments are going to be entirely made up of prompts.

So, for example, I leave a comment like this:
"Write about a troupe of hot lady ninjas."

(Prompts don't always have to be this specific - it's good to have a mix of both general and specific, so that those who want to play with their pre-existing plots and characters get a chance to do so. But if there's something you're just dying to see written, go for it! I know quite a few people came up with some new stories and characters last time, myself included.)

This comment can be left like so. But if you go by a comment like this and think, "Oh, that'd be a great story, but I'd like it even more if the lady ninjas disguised themselves as construction workers by day." In that case you would reply to the first comment by saying:

"The lady ninjas disguise themselves as construction workers by day."

If you'd like to write the lady ninja story but could do without the construction workers, just reply to the first comment with the first prompt, and leave the construction workers to someone else.

In bad diagram form, it'd look like this?

---> Lady ninjas
---------> Construction workers
----------------> Story that uses both prompts
---------> Story only using the first prompt

But anyway.

Leave as many prompts as you want, and the more the better. Even if you don't intend on writing anything, leave a prompt or two and we shall love you forever!

And lastly, feedback. We are all awesome, guys, and I think we all know how great it is to get a response to something we've written. If you liked someone's piece, if a sentence or character really stood out to you, and if it piqued interest in their writing, then say so! I'll be starting a master list of posted drabbles that will be updated as the challenge continues, and barring any major disasters, I will try to read and comment on everything that is posted. And I'm psyched to look at everything you guys have to write. ♥

Above all, play nice. Remember that this is supposed to be fun. Or I'll hurt you. ♥

And that's about it for rules and such. Because I know we're all quite busy and can't just write all day long, we'll leave this round open until October 1st. I will update the list of drabbles in this post as they get posted, so check back here throughout the month to look!

Have fun, and happy writing!
