Gwen pushed the door to Arthur’s room open slowly, stepping over the threshold silently. Turning back to close the door again she couldn’t help but catch herself. What am I doing? She thought to herself, a servant such as she should not be entering the Prince’s quarters like this.
Though she could not ignore the look that he gave her at the feast. The look of hunger, and not for the food. Gwen blushed slightly as she though of his eyes piercing her carefully constructed veil.
Gwen turned back around away from the door and studied the room that lay before her, from the unmade bed to the armour discarded on the floor. She made her way through the clutter to the window, where she had a good view of the courtyard. As she watched, the last few noblemen began to exit the hall after the feast.
Gwen’s eyes were moving back and forth, from face to face searching for the one that she knew and wanted, searching for those same eyes that had looked into her very soul only minutes ago.
But there were no eyes that would find hers, no face that matched the one she was looking for. Sighing and dropping her gaze, Gwen started to turn when something grabbed her waist and kept her facing the window. Breathing heavily Gwen looked down to see the hand that was now around her waist, scarred with cuts along the fingers that only a sword could make. She ran her own fingers along the faint lines that marked her holder.
Leaning back into him her closed her eyes and felt the soft touch of him lips gently caress her earlobe, sending electricity down her neck and making hr skin tingle.
Gwen turned toward the man holding her and met those same piercing eyes that she had been looking for in the courtyard. They stared back at her with the hunger that she new all too well.
‘Gwen’ Arthur said, the words bridging the small amount of space between their lips.
‘Say it again’ she said as she closed her eyes and edged her lips even closer.
‘Gwen’.
