Oh noes!

I broke the door-handle/locking mechanism of my washing machine. It snapped right off while I was wrenching the door open to gather my freshly laundered bedsheets. The bad news is that the washing machine will not run unless it is 'locked' properly with the handle.

The good news is that, in the absence of the handle, the door can be jimmied open and shut with a screwdriver. It's a pain in the fucking ass, but it's better than not having a washing machine at all.

My eyes welled with tears as I sat on the kitchen floor, the broken door handle in my hand, convinced that I'd not only never use the machine again (unless I bothered to pay someone to repair it), but also that my bedsheets would be trapped inside the machine forever. Having a washing machine in my own house is one of the most amazing things that has happened to me in the history of my existence, and that includes all of my true loves.

ADDENDUM (10:43 PM):

justdandy posted this, and I must steal it! I actually haven't seen this Simpsons episode, but it doesn't matter because the truth about grad school shines through in zillions of coloured pixels.
