Bean2Bed

Anyone see the Bean2bed documentary on Channel 4?
Wasn't that amazing?

A business startup funded on the back of 38 credit cards?

=P

According to Business week, now making $250,000 per year?

These people were my age too.
Makes me feel a bit behind.

I remember in my last year of Uni, when me and Will were working on the DVD initially and went down to the SCoRE trade show, having bought a stand there on my student credit card.
We did make contact with about 35 indie retailers, but of course we didn't have a finished product. And of course, my stand was shit. Some inflatable chairs, a TV, and silver PVC floor, and a table with some magazines.....but foolishly, no SIGN, and no PICTURES. So you couldn't tell what we were without coming over and asking us. As I remember rather cheekily someone from Nintendo UK ( the stand opposite us ) coming over and saying: So, who exactly are you?
=P Like we were a bunch of jobbers.

Still, in the documentary, the Bean2Bag people just went to an agency and paid 'em £5000 for professional photos and sign printing to put on their stand at the Earls Court show they were attending. All on the credit card again. =P

Throughout my business, I have sufferred from a lack of resources. All my freelance editors quit on me, 'cos they didn't like working full time for £100 a week....but if their example was anything to go by, I should have splashed with the cash getting proper places to video edit for £6000 a month (£300 a day), and then made my money back when going to market.

Thing is, my Dad is such a miser, I've always been raised to do everything on a shoe string.

But the story of those two entrepreneurs is amazing and inspiring, and I envy how they just splashed the cash, and got the job done.

Hope isn't over for me yet either, I've got another chance at getting to retail for Easter.
But obviously, there have been delays, and I'm not sure how much sales interest that may have cost us yet.

ambition, achievements, inspiration
