Print Run to Sell Through Ratio @ NewsStand Wholesale

Jul 24, 2006 12:06

John Chapman has left WhSmiths.

The guy who assess our magazine, and said as long as we made it A4, and made the cover scream a bit louder, he didn't see why they couldn't put it in 30,000 newsagents for us, has left WHSmiths! =P

That's not to say whoever his replacement is, might not reach the same conclusion, but, more that, I've completely forgotten everything I learnt about wholesale, and all the research I did, so as soon as they told me John Chapman wasn't there, I forgot which department he worked for, so wasn't sure where to ask the switchboard to direct me.
It's probably WHSmiths News isn't it?
Oh no wait, haven't they all split and changed names or something daft?
Oh..yeah, WH Smith News is now Smith News PLC.

Ahhh! Thought I would try my contact at Dawson News instead - and Venessa has left there too. Luckily got put through to Tommy Cooksley, and got my question answered.

They ideally look for 65% sell through of a print run total.
But the reality / typical sell through is just under 50/45...of however many they're given.

Also interesting to learn the importance of multiples accepting the title to justify the distribution of high print runs.
