Today has been a really good day, so I thought I'd update in celebration. It didn't start off so well... I seem to be the king of procrastination this week... but I did manage to find some really interesting articles which back-up some of my theories, which is exciting... I'm looking forward to doing some delving tomorrow.
So that was good. But the main highlight of the day was `Deep Blue', a performance I went to with Elise and a bunch of friends + mum and dad. It was wonderful; a big mess of music, strung along with audiovisuals and some entertaining hijinks by the musicians. The lineup was pretty much a string-chamber orchestra, + electronic drumkit, synthesiser and theremin.
And the thereminning was particularly impressive. I'm almost inspired to go out and get a kit from Dick Smiths... apparently they're only about 40 bucks... (or maybe I could just find some appropriate plans on the net... we probably have enough junk from old, dead computers and random electronic equipment to build just about anything...).
The best part of the night for me was the music from the `Flying Dream' scene in `Lawn'; Elise and I saw Lawn early last year (I think), and hearing the music brought it all back...
grr... I just spent the last 5 minutes trying to describe `Lawn', and failed abysmally; but if you get a chance, I highly recommend it! Some *amazing* dancing and music...
So that was great. And to top things off, I also got a chance to talk to Robert Davidson, who's going to email me with some information on music composition teachers around Brisbane, and also with details about an amature avant-garde music ensemble based in London. I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to put aside for music, but I'm really missing not being involved in more of it at the moment, so I'm going to make some little steps towards getting back in again....
Ok. I'm going to bed.
