Meltdown Drama Take 3 & 4:
Okay, so none of the theaters I have written to about putting on our January shows have responded
(Theater of NOTE, Smodcastle, or Rogue Machine), and Sax at Meltdown was on my ass to give them an answer...
So, I went for a drive...in the rain. Got food for GC, came back a few hours later and still nothing. So, I told Saxe I'll go with Meltdown, as it is not a bad arrangement and might allow for some fun troublemaking on our part...especially knowing it will be the last time we do anything there. Kar3n suggested buying cases of paper towels, then taking them the next week, adding more the following week, then taking all of them back after the last show. Just for fun.
But wait! There's more!
I called Meltdown at the same time as I was IM'ing with Sax and asked about our money from the last round of shows...see, I asked at the end of the first show about collecting it and they said I could just do it at the end of the run. Coolio, says I. Yet, when I went back after the run to ask, they said I should have collected after every show. Yeah. No worries, though, cause Francisco, the guy who handled the register, took my info and said they'd send a check. Yay!
Cue two months later. No check. Finally got in touch with Francisco again (Sax said he doesn't handle the money side, and Francisco was never there when I called before), and he was surprised as anyone that I hadn't gotten paid. Said he'd check with accounting or whatever and call me back.
Cue two days later. I called HIM back and reminded him. He was all "Oh shit!" and said he'd definitely call in five minutes after he looked into it.
And then Sax pings me on IM. Right after I wrote back saying we were in for shows after all:
Sean: well as you might just have been emailed [never got the email, btw - me]
your previous owed money can go into your next shows
all of them, for whatever we owe you, even if its less then 100
per show
me: Eh?
Sean: I don't know how much we owe you
me: So, the $212 I was owed will count as the $400 I would have to pay for the shows?
Sean: but if you put that down as the deposit all your january shows are covered
well you put that down, and everything is 50/50
so its not technically 400 (i.e. you aren't getting the first 100 back per night, just 50/50) [no, technically it IS $400, but after the previous math FAIL, I wasn't going to argue - me]
its a deposit on 50/50
but you'll do ok at 8
me: Fair enough
What happened?
Sean: nothing
just worked it out
me: heh
So there ya go. I guess they just lost my money and said, Fuck it! Or maybe this was to make up for the previous Math FAIL (he wrote back, btw, and said I was right, essentially, and that Gaston errored, to put it gently)...? Who knows. All I care about is that I saved almost $200, as that money was just going to go back into the show anyway.
He also confided in me that the reason Gaston has been all psycho lately is because the Weds. night comedy shows they put up have been raking in upwards of $800 and he wants all the other shows that go on there to match that. Despite them all being as profitable or less than ours. Whatevuh!
If anyone ever thought of putting on a show there, I pray for your soul.
