Out of curiosity Old Wolf, you just spelled gaol the same way we Aussies and the Brits spell it. Isn't the American spelling "Jail"?

It usually is, but I'm finding a number of Americans who like to spell or phrase things the British way online.

Well, indeed it is. But you see, I try to adapt myself to local customs as much as possible. So when I'm writing to an American, I'll spell it "jail", so he'll understand. Because we of the Old Wolf Brotherhood spell it "Ɣƣdžɰɳʨ", and we prize clear communication above all.
