Guy vision, yeah right... (The Class Menagerie)
Was/is the cartoonist female by any chance? I've noticed some bias in a few other strips too.
What a generalisation! As it happens I'm HIGHLY particular about expiry dates on products (foodstuffs & medicines). Far more so than my mother. I once contracted food poisoning from some museli she once bought at a discount. When I looked at the packet I discovered that it was more than 2 months past use by date, yet she not only insisted that there was nothing wrong with the museli but argued with the Doctor's diagnosis, saying that my symptoms were not actually those of food poisoning.
She was also notorious for buying fruit that had a "half-life." IE half of it would spoil before there was any chance of it being eaten. When my brother and I were young we happened to be watching a science program about time-lapse filming which included candles burning down in seconds, and snails moving at 100mph. One sequence showed fruit decaying. Bowls and plates of sumptuous fruit turning brown, then shrivelling up before our eyes. At one point there were a small bunch of bananas in view. Bananas that started out golden yellow, but became black and crusty on the TV in a fleeting moment.
At the sight of this, and without even breaking into a smile, my brother said "Yeah... they're the kind of bananas mom buys..."
...I on the other hand keeled over laughing. :D
