Not last time but the time before (although I am still totally on my deadline, so there), I signed up for Sweet Charity. The person who won me was
adbaculum. Probably everyone who sells herself for charity has a moment of terror when she gets the request, but
adbaculum's was actually pretty cool. Basically, she wanted me to rec some vids that might show her why

There's a difference between Ulysses and Harry Potter (yes, I know that there are several differences, actually - like, I really don't think Leopold Bloom casts expelliarmus even once)
Crying. Laughing.
I woke up my husband and just had to hand-wave helplessly when asked for explanation.

Would you like to exchange favorite AMV tips? I have great and possibly insane love for AMVs!

Um, my apologies to your husband? (Although, really, we all suffer together; I've been trying to imagine a Ulysses x Harry Potter crossover ever since I wrote that - because, really, Leopold Bloom deserves the chance to cast a few spells, don't you think? - and it is making my brain hurt.)

Wz Bloom lazily unfurled the top edge of the scroll with the tip of his finger. Simpson's Ars Magica: Index Animalium, edge badly foxed. Glimpsed a corner of the first illumination, snakes writhing together to form a capital ess. Mating knot. Nagini strangling a child. Them Slytherins never change their scales, I tell you, man.
Released the parchment to restore its protective curl.
He moved further down the shelf and lingered a moment: Survival as a Way of Life by that hooker who became famous ( ... )

This is just - it's magic, and I mean that in a totally non-ironic, non-punny way. And you made him a furry. Oh my god, so very perfect. (For some reason, I am now thinking about how much Wz Bloom would love Crimson Spell. Stop, brain! Crossovers can HURT!)

Also, yes! I'd love to see more from you on AMVs! Sometimes I find the multifandom, dance, and action categories -- which seem to me to be the most popular genres -- a bit frustrating because I'm used to seeing live media vids done by fangirls who like tight POV and, like, narrative and stuff.
On the other hand, sometimes the really brilliant constructed reality AU ones leave me a little cold. But impressed. Just -- it's rare that one of them would be one that I rewatch for anything other than whatever visual techniques the vidder used. Which is REALLY ODD, because I can name a few of the same sort of AU vids done with live media source that blew my socks off completely.
