Character name: Midii Une
Fandom: Gundam Wing (Episode Zero manga)
Timeline: Following the events of Episode Zero, chapter 4
Age: approx. 10-11 years
"Magical"abilities and strengths:  No superhuman powers to speak of.  Was a Child Spy during times of War.  Sufficiently knowledgeable in technology and stealth
How would they use their abilities?: Though she would resist the idea at first due to memories of her latest betrayal (see below), Midii might eventually try to join the Preventers as a Junior member.
Appearance: A relatively cute, petite child, Midii has long blonde hair that flows to the small of her back, fair skin, and delicate facial features.  She gives off an inital appearance of fragility, which comes from being a victim of war, and rarely smiles.  Her clothes consist of durable pants--possibly jeans--a thin turtleneck sweater, and military jacket a few sizes too large.  She also wears a small, golden cross around her neck that has been warped and broken from what looks to be a bullet hole in the center.  Her only other posession is a small, handheld game console.

Background/Personality:  Midii Une is the only daughter in a poverished family of five consisting of herself, three younger brothers, and a sickly father.  It is unknown what became of her mother, as she rarely--if ever--mentions her.  As the oldest child, Midii was forced to grow up before her time to take on the responsibility of providing for her family; to make ends meet, she accepted a job from the Alliance (an organization that took on the role of universal government) that had her infiltrate a squad of rebel soldiers.

It is the squad's youngest member--a 10-year-old boy with no name, no family, and no past--who finds her wandering the jungles.  Because of Midii's seemingly innocent apperance, he brings her back to their base camp and introduces her to the captain.  The squad welcomes her into their ranks, and in return, she serves as their cook.  She also becomes a casual companion to the young boy, whom refers to himself only as "Nanashi" (lit. "No Name").

Midii would often sit neaby, playing her game console, while Nanashi quietly did repairs on his battle suit.  Words were seldom needed between them, until one day when Midii asked why he has saved her.  His response was cryptic: "Because we're the same."  She asked him what that meant, but he did not answer, leaving her to wonder.  Despite this, she still gave him the tiny golden cross around her neck as a token of thanks.  God would watch over him now, she told him.  He accepted it silently, and from then on, was constantly seen wearing the cross around his neck.

Midii watched him very closely after that, noting little things about the mysterious boy, such as the nostalgic look on his face when he saw a traveling circus...or the fact that he could not seem even a little sad after having been forced to kill his comrades in a stint of betrayal.

"I've seen enough sad faces as a baby to last me a lifetime," he told her in response.

"So you're just goign to keep shutting down your heart, huh?" She asked.

"...until the day I die."

It was during this conversation that Nanashi began to really notice the game console around her neck.  He eventually noticed it as a transmitter, and realized that Midii was a spy.  The very reason why the Alliance seemed to know every move the rebels made.

The very reason why their entire squad was soon bombed, leaving only the two of them alive.

Only when he stood over the dying form of his captain and surrogate father did Nanashi finally confront her about it, however, calmly asking how much "they" paid her.

"Enough to feed three little brothers and a sick father," she told him with equal calm.  Furthermore, the cross she had given him was also a transmitter, and the only reason he had been left alive.

Nanashi threw it away in digust, raising his gun to shoot.

Unfazed by his weapon, Midii proceeded to remove the transmitter from her neck.  She then brought up their conversation the day he had told her they were the same:  "...but that wasn't true.  I'm not as fortunate as you."  After all, he had no family, no past, and no anchor to the world around him.  He was empty.  Free.  She, on the other hand, had a sick father and brothers to take care of.  She had a name.  A life.  Guilt.

In her mind, she spoke the words she longed to tell him:  I loved you.  I longed to be like you.  I wanted to be with you always.

But aloud, all she could say was that "I hate empty guys like you!"

Her eyes closed when Nanashi asked if that was all she had to say, tears welling in her eyes.  She knew he would shoot.  She didn't try to stop him.

And he did shoot...hitting the tiny, golden cross at her feet.

Shocked that he had spared her, she could only stare after the boy whose name she would never know as he turned his back to her, walking out of her life forever.

Have you read up on how the game works?
A) FlamingFerret.
B) Midii could either: work for the Preventers eventually, take on odd jobs, or spy for hire information gatherer

Am I dead?

No, probably not.  There's a far worse place in hell for me.

Then again, perhaps this really is my final judgement.  My reconciliation for the crimes I've committed.  Against the men who had taken me in when I was defenseless.  Against the captain who looked after me as if I were one of his own.  Against...him.

"Careful what you wish for."  Papa used to say that to me all the time.  Be careful, Midii, or you just might get it.

And I did.

I'm free.  No family to take care of at the age of ten.  No home to go back to.  No comrades.  Do I even have my name anymore?  Could I still really be Midii Une?  Or am I no lonered tied to that person I used to be.  The one who did horrible things for horrible people because of selfish reasons.  I could start again.  Be free.  Be empty.  Like he was.

Then again...I still have the memories.

Perhaps God is punishing me after all.

3rd person sample

Midii stared long and hard at the creature handing her the soft, baby-blue towel.  It was humanoid only in the loosest sense of the word, with three eyes, burnt sienna skin, and two small holes where a nose should have been.  She guessed it was female, judging by the black eyeliner and lipstick...and the curvy figure beneath "her" jumper uniform was also a big hint.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew she should have been frightened.  Her home was gone, family possibly lost forever, and she was staring a potentially dangerous creature right in the face.  Traded one refugee bunk for another.  Yet, as she absently clutched at the warped crusifix around her neck...an almost foreign sense of peace washed over her.

I'm filled with things.  My family...my job...my guilt...

She was free.  Empty.  Just like the one she had envied not so long ago.  The one she had loved.

And as she turned away from the social worker, blanket held to her chest, she turned back just long enough to utter two words:

"Thank you."

Questions?:  What is it with Gundam guys pointing guns at girls they like?

Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Yes'sir!  [salutes]
