Hello, my name is Franz, and you can help my Mama beat breast cancer.
Meet My Mama
My Mama, Pomona Pilar "Monette" G. dela Fuente, is, quite simply, the best Mama we've ever known. Twenty-five years ago, she made the selfless decision to quit her career in real estate to be a full-time mom and raise my sister Sarah and I the best way she could. Sarah and I wouldn't be where we are today without her love, guidance, and support. We love her very, very much.
Last October, Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer, Stage 1A, HER2 positive. She underwent surgery to remove the lump in her left breast and was advised to undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy to ensure all remaining traces of her cancer are eliminated.
Today, she is facing the biggest challenge of our life as she embarks on a journey to beat breast cancer. We, her family, are fully behind her every step of the way--we hope you could join us too.
Our Situation Today
While the prognosis for Mama's recovery is good, we cannot say the same for our current financial situation. Our finances haven't been in good shape since 2010 ever since Papa left the IT sector in 2007, and thus we are hard-pressed for funds for Mama's treatment. I am currently a corporate branding and communication specialist for a holding company here in the Philippines, while my sister, a recent college graduate, is an entry-level architectural intern.
On Choosing To Crowdfund
Since October we have been mobilizing every monetary resource we can in order to raise funds for Mama's treatment--loans, relatives, government assistance. But we realize that even all these may not be enough.
We therefore decided to take the crowdfunding route, if only to exhaust all financial options. It's not an easy decision to make, but we're optimistic that we can count on the generosity of friends and other individuals who can and want to help Mama beat breast cancer.

Help Mama Beat Breast Cancer How You Can Help
Mama is set to undergo eight (8) chemotherapy cycles every three weeks, with each cycle costing approximately P45,000. In addition, she has been diagnosed as HER2 positive, which would require 18 hormone therapy sessions costing as much as P300,000 per session. These are the real numbers--like I said, it will be tough for our family to easily come up with these amounts for Mama's treatment.
We hope you could consider helping us out by making a financial donation, no matter the amount. But even if you don't, you can still help by sharing this campaign on social media. We would appreciate every bit of publicity if it would mean reaching more people who will be willing to help.
If you're from the Philippines and want to help us out, please consider depositing to:
BANK: Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)
ACCOUNT NAME: Franz Jonathan G. de la Fuente
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 3259-0500-64
I promise to promptly acknowledge and confirm receipt of all financial donations where feasible.
Questions?
Please know that this campaign is legitimate and in no way do we want to take advantage of your kindness and money. I've been a writer since my elementary days--this is probably the only thing I know how to do really well (well, not ~really well but you know what I mean). I hope you could help me write a happy narrative to our family's ongoing life journey.
Because even the most difficult of journeys--most especially Mama's campaign to #BeatBreastCancer--deserve a happy ending, don't they? :)
