INSTRUCTIONS ON GETTING A UNIVERSITY CLEARANCE and A TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS
As you graduate and leave the University, a diploma and transcript of records (TOR) are important documents that you will need to have with you. However, before any of these can be issued to you, a university clearance must be secured first.
1. File your application for clearance before leaving the University. A clearance indicates that you have settled all accountabilities with the University. To avoid any inconvenience or delay in future transactions with the University, it is advisable that you settle your accountabilites before graduation or at the latest, before you leave the University. Having secured a university clearance will facilitate the release of your diploma and the processing of your TOR in the Future.
2. Pay the graduation fee of P300.00 at the Cashier's Office (beside PNB). Present the official receipt and the accomplished form for clearance to the assigned personnel at the One-Stop Clearance Center (OSCC).
3. If you intend to apply for a TOR, please fill out the application form for the transcript and have it assessed by the assigned Transcript personnel. Pay the transcript fee at the Cashier's Office and present the official receipt to OSCC personnel, together with the application for transcript and your clearance. Keep your official receipt and present it when claiming your TOR.
4. Please note that your application for University clearance has to be approved first before your application for transcript will be acted upon. Kindly check the status of your application for the University clearance at the OSCC at 981-8500 ext. 4555.
5. If your application for clearance has been approved, you may follow up your application for TOR after two (2) months. Transcripts may take longer to process during the months of May to July, considering the volume of requests during this peak period.
6. If you are applying for the Board/Bar Examinations or for admission to medical schools, please indicate it on your application form for transcript and follow up on your application one month before the deadline for the said examinations.
SABLAY: THE ACADEMIC COSTUME OF U.P. DILIMAN
The word sablay has two meanings: one, a loose piece of clothing, worn by a person, that is simple yet elegant and joined by an ornament; and two, the draping of a precious object or fabric on the shoulder.
The sablay was first used at the University of the Philippines - Diliman in 1990. There was a period when experimentation was allowed thus giving rise to various versions of the sablay. These are now obsolete and should not be worn anymore. The official design for the sablay of UP Diliman was adopted in the February 28, 2001 [73rd] University Council Meeting. This official version is now the required costume in official academic ceremonies in UP Diliman.
The sablay gets its inspiration from the Muslim malong but incorporates various traditional elements found in other Philippine cultures. Running through the sablay are geometric motifs of indigenous Philippine tribes, which border the initials of the University interpreted in alibata characters, the ancient Philippine alphabet. Alternating with the initials of UP is an ukkit or ukir as an accent. The basic colors used are maroon and forest green, the official colors of the University of the Philippines.
The sablay is worn over Barong Tagalog and black pants (for men) or white or ecru dress, midcalf to ankle length (for women). The dress should have sleeves (no spaghetti straps or strapless dresses, please) matched with closed shoes.
The sablay is worn initially over the right shoulder. After the President has conferred the degree, thesablay is moved from the right to the left shoulder without being taken off. The College Marshals shall demonstrate the proper way to do this in the assembly area.
The sablay is an academic costume and should be worn only with academic regalia (i.e., university medals for academic achievement awarded to summas, magnas & cum laudes) and a minimum of jewelry. Corsages and leis are not part of the academic costume and thereof they should not be worn with the sablay during the ceremony.
The sablay is available in Hablon, handwoven in Iloilo, costing P700.00 (small & medium) and P725 (large). You may place your order for the sablay at the Benitez Alumni Hostel, Magsaysay Avenue cor. Ylanan Street (in front of DMST/UP Vanguard). For inquiries, please contact 981-8500 ext. 4258 or 926-1426 (Ms. Norma Castro). Payments are recieved at the Cashier's Office and at the Benitez Alumni Hostel (official receipt required).
