I watched RENT last night with Maika, Bikai, Nadine, Jo, and Kor. It was awesomesauce. Really impressive. Lots of loose ends in the movie were adequately answered in the Philippine production of this Tony Award-winning musical. And then I proceeded to Afterglow after, which was conveniently a block away from RCBC Theater.

I realized that if there's one RENT character I can totally relate to, it would have to be Mark Cohen (contrary to popular belief, it is not Angel Dumott Schunard). I think my affinity to this filmmaker would have to be best summed up in the song, "Goodbye Love."
ROGER
But who, Mark, are you?
"Mark has got his work"
They say
"Mark lives for his work"
And
"Mark's in love with his work"
Mark hides in his work
MARK
From what?
ROGER
From facing your failure
Facing your loneliness
Facing the fact
You live a lie
Yes, you live a lie -
Tell you why
You're always preaching
Not to be numb
When that's how you thrive
You pretend to
Create and observe
When you really
Detach from feeling alive
MARK
Perhaps it's because
I'm the one of us to survive
MARK
Hey, for somebody
Who's always been let down
Who's heading out of town?
ROGER
For someone who longs
For a community of his own
Who's with his camera, alone?
I'll call
I hate the fall.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
life,
love,
rent,
valentines
