Coincidence

Surprise surprise. I was bumming around, browsing stuff at Powerbooks Greenbelt. I just came from a lunch at my aunt's at her condominium practically next door to Greenbelt when I bumped into classmate/orgmate/friend Jacques Jimeno, who was looking for a book for our Journalism class. It was a pleasant surprise, I must admit. After the stressfulness of the first week, I trekked to Powerbooks to de-stress, and meeting a friend out of the blue was yet an added bonus to my determinedly leisurely Saturday (no class, unlike last sem! Yay!)

We exchanged some kuwento and lingered for a while. While he pored over Strunk and White's Elements of Style, he gave me a Haruki Murakami short story anthology (whose title I forgot, haha) and pointed me to his favorite, Chance Traveler. Well, basically it's about Murakami talking about a friend, a piano-tuner from Tokyo, who experiences a series of extraordinary coincidences, and how they change his life.

To be fair, I can sort of relate. Life is indeed full of coincidences. It's funny, how something so random can sometimes make perfect sense. You just have to find out for yourself how and why. Haha. But generally speaking, I find coincidences charming. Like, say, meeting a friend in a bookstore one random afternoon, totally unexpected. That sort of thing. :)

My folks and I later moved on to SM Megamall early that evening. As if one coincidence wasn't enough, I bumped again into Jacques at Megamall. He was with his uncle this time, I with my sister and mom. Haha. But before that, I too bumped into orgmates Jovan Cerda and Jon-Jon Avila, Jon-Jon clutching a handful of shopping bags. The latter claimed to be searching for a specific pair of pants. I didn't ask for details though.

I didn't let the day pass without making a book purchase. I got I Ain't Got Time to Bleed: Reworking the Body Politic from the Bottom Up by Jesse Ventura. Yes, the professional wrestler turned Minnesota governor. I remembered Dr. Nemenzo mentioning him in my Philippine government class two semesters ago. I think I'm gonna enjoy this one last book before I plunge into the second semester.

And yes, like Governor Ventura, at this point in my life, I ain't got no time to bleed. Got to get up and make a move. Fast.
