Today in Psychology 493 (003): love and its social and psychological impact Dr. Stollak talked about feces for 30 minutes. More importantly, poo-poo balls and how much fun they are to throw around. Poo-poo balls are apparently what we all made in the sandbox when we were young, because of the suppression our parents placed on actual fecal play. Way to hold me back mom and dad! We also discussed Dr. Stollak's very, very painful kidney stone passage and his extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) operation on Tuesday, causing our lack of class. Damn, I wonder what other amazing topics we could have bullshitted about if class happened?
There was one conversation that kept my interest for more than just ostentatious reasons. Somehow (I was doing the State News crossword and day-dreaming about my trips to Chicago and LA in the next months) I was asked what the difference was between tolerance, acceptance, and respect (R-E-S-P-E-C-T). I am quite proud of my top-of-the-hat answer: Tolerance indicates a lack of respect and acceptance, but not a total disregard. Acceptance is a form of respect, but to respect does not necessarily mean one has to accept.
... back to papers.
