First off, it was an experience! And as a sidenote, LJ you ate up my first entry so this reflects most of what I felt but not as portrayed as accurately. I will be honest that the concert didn't meet all of my expectations but you're bound to be a bit disappointed. Mostly for the lack of small talk. I don't have that much experiences with concerts as this was my second concert ever, but I'm pretty sure with other rock/metal/pop concerts that the singers talk more than how much I heard. Even Stone Sour who performed before them did. To be fair, maybe Amy Lee was having a bad day. I would say she was nervous but considering how big Evanescence is and how many concerts must have been performed by now, not going to buy that.
I felt that we were only getting half a show, or worse, just being "serviced" as in something to survive now until it was over. Considering it's a Tuesday night concert, I'm amazed at how many people still came despite work, school, or any other commitments the day after. Yet the Evanescence part of the concert was rushed. It was under an hour compared to Stone Sour and The Black Maria, whom might I add each had at least an hour for their parts. Now Evanescence was the selling name for the concert so if they went over an hour or whatever their alloted time was, no one is going to stop them because they're the selling name.
But past that, it was a real treat hearing Amy Lee sing in person as opposed to all those years listening to her over the radio, TV, etc. I, like many others, was in awe of how she could project her voice like that. It was quite hypnotizing really. Damn wouldn't I wish I could sing like that or even a quarter of that. As a writer, I wonder what it would be like...just for the experience. Anyway, no concert would be complete for me (even if this was only my second one) without souvenirs.
I find it slightly hypocritical, if not just a wee bit reckless of me, that I couldn't bring myself to spend $40 on a Genbu Kaiden t-shirt that I saw on Akadot but I was able to spend the exact same amount on an Evanescence concert tee. This is not including the $60 I splurged on the hoodie and the $15 I spent on a pendant. It must say something when I find the designs of the youth apparel much more appealing than the adult counterparts. Needless to say tonight I was more than glad that I was more on the short side as that helped in being able to fit into the tee and hoodie. The hoodie is a bit snug but it fits. The sleeves are the correct length though I do wonder what an XL youth would have been like on me. The sleeves might be a big longer but there might also be bit more room in the main body of the garment. Either way, I'm happy because I love the design that's on the youth hoodie, being a bit more colourful and appeasing to the eye in comparison to the adult hoodie where there was only an emblem on the right breast where as with the youth hoodie, there are lighter colours (violet, deep blue, and white) that create a design over the entire chest.
Choosing a t-shirt was a bit harder especially with so little time to choose but I knew that if I had wanted one that would fit, I had to get it early, before the concert, rather than later when they would more likely be sold out. The ones with photos were easiest to eliminate as I find it just a tad creepy when wearing something that has eyes looking out directly at you. Then there were the abstract patterns that didn't pull me in as much. Their style of a tank and a corset just weren't up my alley. That left two t-shirts: one that was of The Open Door album cover while the other one was of old-fashioned black and white photograph of Amy Lee. The latter looked pretty from a distance but upon closer inspection, the eyes were looking out directly. That left the album cover, of which I was happy for since I liked the album cover.
Then there's also the fact that I went with my best friend, whom I was glad could make it considering the amount of text-messaging involved with buying the tickets and the fact that I knew she loved the band as much as I did. Seeing her squeal with delight when Amy Lee played just a few notes from The Nightmare Before Christmas score told me that entire effort had been worth it. Then there was also another friend who I met through her who was also there with her boyfriend, so I was happy for the company. Coincidentally enough, they were just one section over but in the same row, so that was cool. All in all, I enjoyed the concert for in some levels, it was more personal and welcoming than the Nickelback one in terms of company, plus I got to hear one of my favourite singers sing. It was most definitely worth the fact that it's almost midnight and I have to be up by four tommorow.
I wonder if hot coffee being poured on to my hand could wake me if I am to be that zoned out?
