Writing Woes

Due to real life issues (read catastrophes), I was unable to participate in NaNo this year but it did get me thinking for next year though. Currently I have two options that could be done in about 50,000 words or so. Based on how long I am capable of writing chapters (Sky Folktale's first chapter in a draft hit 4639 O_O), the story would at least be ten chapters or so. Not an overly long story but something that can be self-contained. This is not supposed to interfere with the main story but can work with it. One being Vampire Princess Shuurei: Beyond the Indigo Mirror and the other is Vampire Princess Shuurei: Tears of the Earth. The first is an AU/what if of an AU while the other is a prequel to the main Vampire Princess Shuurei.

The former is based on something I wrote in my fic notes that the world of the living and the world of the dead tend to mirror each other directly, very much so like the old Chinese ideal that the kingdom of heaven was the same as the kingdom of earth. Now, having only read the translation of the light novels, I'm still not as comfortable with the material as I am with the anime thus why this takes place after season two.

At the end of the season two, Shoka broke the mirror holding the 108 spirits and Shusui just managed to calm them down playing the ehru. Now Hyou means light indigo but that didn't make for a snappy title (I'm rather attached to my titles) so I shorted it to indigo, even though that means Ran but there is a tie-in with that as well in the story. My what if is what happened to those spirits and how did that affect the underworld. Saiunkoku is called the Land of the Coloured Clouds in translation, which could be reinterpreted as heaven, so if I could figure out what means what, I can change the name to what the underworld could be called. That's the part that needs research.

This story works out on the idea of the 108 spirits being used to take over the underworld except they screw up in taking over the above world instead. So basically Official Kou was not the Shuurei they were looking for, when the target was the Kou Watcher Shuurei. Mistaken identity and hilarity ensues. Still debating about whether if you touch your counterpart, you'll cancel each other out. That would certainly make things interesting but I'm wondering if it's necessary.

The second story refers one of Kou Watcher Shuurei's first case involving Sa Sakujun when she was undercover. It takes a couple years after Shoka disappeared for no apparent reason. In both sets of notes that I have, Shoka is either dead or disappeared, thus allowing for the Kou's Watcher gift to manifest in Shuurei. Reishin has been raising Shuurei with his elder brother gone and personally doesn't want to let Shuurei into the field but at the same time, can't deny she has the potential and is the only one strong enough to of the Kou clan. If you thought Seiren's reaction to Sakujun was scary, it's nothing compared to what Reishin ended up doing.

On another odd ball note, I'm very tempted to write a Vampire Knight and Saiunkoku crossover mainly because there are two bodyguards whose names are Seiren with an almost identical hair colour -.-'

fic napkin notions, saiunkoku monogatari
