I Have Fallen...
There have been fandoms that I have resisted with success such as Bleach, Naruto, Glee, etc. simply because they didn't appeal to me. I figured My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic would be the same. I thought wrong. I haven't watched every show but of the ones I have, there are at least a couple capable of producing something wet in my eyes. Don't ask me how. I'm still trying to figure this one out for myself. Now it's not like I hate whatever is popular otherwise I would have never gotten into Avatar, Korra, YJ or TT, but some popular stuff really doesn't appeal to me whatsoever.
I liked MLP when I was young. I remember renting every one of the movies in VHS from the video store as a kid and watching them again and again. I remember that the originals had a human girl named Megan. I remember Spike was in the original one and that he'd be an orphan adopted by a bad guy's henchman. I remember Sundance was a rather clumsy unicorn but was good at jumping. I remembered the Rainbow of Light which is hidden inside a locket. I remembered baby Moondancer (another unicorn), who didn't have a costume. I remembered Flutter Ponies and Sea Ponies. I remembered the Smooze. I remember having a fondness for the unicorn ponies because out of the different types of ponies, I found the ability to "wink" in and out (basically teleportation with the same range as Nightcrawler) the most useful.
But like a lot of older fans, when execs revamp your childhood, as soon as I saw the new animation style, I didn't hate it but I wasn't praising it. I was neutral about it. Then watching the fanworks here and there started inching into my subconscious. My first favourite character was Nightmare Moon/Princess Luna, because I liked both her design and her punny name. Out of the Mane Six, I liked Twilight Sparkle and Rarity the most because like I said, unicorns. Now I can add in Shining Armor and Princess Mi Amore Candeza (Cadence) because of sweet some of the sibling relationships in this show are.
I just really hope I don't start wanting to make fanworks of this because it will have to get in line with YJ, TT, Korra, and Avatar. I think I've finally given up on GK and TBS simply because I outgrew them so I've cleared up some room. If GK ever becomes an anime, all bets are off. I will probably watch the show religiously for subs and snap up the box set when it comes out.
