Well, that was not fun.

So, that was probably both the most memorable and slightly traumatic way to speak to my new neighbors for the first time besides a casual 'hi' and wave. "Hi, can I borrow your husband? There's a rabbit dying in your side yard and I don't have the nerve to kill it myself."

Poor, poor thing. It had most likely gotten hit, as its back was broken and it was spasming. Luckily the guy was willing to help, though he was such a sweetheart and I think he was about in the same state I was, and only able to kill it because it was in pain. He broke its neck with the back of an axe and took it off into the alley for me. Good, good neighbor.

However, I am still slightly shaky and tense, and now's the time I really wish someone was around to give me a hug.
