New series!

Aug 07, 2013 02:52

I had this really random idea for a fic, but I thought I might try making it into a short series to see if I can improve the original idea I had. The fic will be sort of fluffy at first, but the good stuff comes later ;)

I recently read some guidelines to writing by Chuck Palahniuk, who by the way is one of my all time favourite authors, so I'm trying out some of the techniques he mentioned~ I don't write as much as I should, and largely any writing I do is fanfiction, so this is the only place to try it out!

I hope you enjoy this new series~ The title of the whole series will be Verdant.

Title: Bouquet (Part 1/? of Verdant)
Pairing: Asagi x Tsunehito
Genre: Romance, fluff, AU
Warning/Disclaimer: Nope.
Summary: Tsunehito and Asagi both work in a small town in the same street. Tsunehito runs a boutique, Asagi, a florist.

Closing the stockroom door, Tsunehito glanced around the empty shop. It was closing time once again. He moved towards the window and sure enough across the street he could see the local florist, Asagi, packing up for the day too. He carefully watered the plants outside before locking up the shop and disappearing as he went home. Tsunehito sighed.

He would always be there at 6pm sharp every day, and so would Tsunehito.

It was the next morning when Tsunehito was opening the shop that he noticed Asagi arriving late. He seemed out of breath, as if he’d ran all the way. Tsunehito had never really spoken to the florist before, but he seemed so flustered it seemed heartless to let him go without offering assistance.

“Uh, can I help you with anything?”

Asagi started. “”It’s, it’s fine honestly. I just had some trouble getting here this morning”

Tsunehito nodded and smiled in response. His heart skipped a beat at the small exchange. It skipped again at the smile he’d received before Asagi had turned to unlock the door to his shop. Feeling a little flustered himself now, Tsunehito left the scene too and began preparations for the day.

It was a slow work day. Tsunehito ran a boutique, and his designs were popular amongst those in the town where he lived. Sometimes people would even come from far away to buy something of his, but today, today moved slower than the local trains that got him out the stale quiet of the town at the weekend. Suddenly, the bell on the door chimed.

“Welcome”

Tsunehito put on his best host face and beamed at his customer. The tall blonde before him took him by surprise. A foreigner. She was dazzling and obviously a model of some kind.

“I heard you’ve got a knack for making good clothes” she may have been beautiful, but the way she talked down at Tsunehito really irked him.
“Let’s see what I can do” he returned.

He spent the better part of an hour sifting through materials, taking measurements. It seemed the woman had a shoot coming up soon. So she was a model after all. The bell on the door chimed again, but Tsunehito didn’t hear it. He didn’t hear when Asagi cleared his throat, nor when he carefully placed a small vase of flowers on the counter.

“I think somebody is here to see you” the blonde said “but don’t take too long” she winked. Her flirting was starting to really get on Tsunehito’s nerves. He turned to find nobody there, but he saw the quickened step of Asagi as he left the shop;  his long, jet black hair flowing behind him. Almost without thinking, Tsunehito put a hand to his own head. He wished he had such gorgeous hair. He kept it short because it was less hassle that way. Running his fingers through it, he was lost in the thought of his hands belonging to someone else until the demanding voice of the woman waiting rang out from the changing room.

Before he knew it, the sun was beginning to set again. After the nagging model had left, Tsunehito had been left to wallow in his own thoughts of self-pity and rotten luck. He had to hold the fort at the shop again the next day, and as such he would be missing a concert he really wanted to attend. He was still angry that his selfish little sister wouldn’t help him out the one time he needed her to.

It was 6pm. Tsunehito crossed to the window and craned to peer out across the street. Asagi was nowhere to be seen. That was strange. He surveyed the scene some more before accepting Asagi really wasn’t there.

“Anything interesting?”

The voice came from behind. Tsunehito had no idea when Asagi had entered, but he’d nearly jumped out of his skin when he’d found the tall, slim figure standing just behind him.

“You scared me” Tsunehito said breathlessly. He tried to hide his surprise and anxiety with a small laugh.

“I just came to see you got your present” He jerked his head towards the vase he’d left earlier. Tsunehito still hadn’t noticed it, but he feigned a reaction to suggest otherwise.

“Oh yes, they’re beautiful. Thank you, but what’s the occasion”

“I just had some flowers left over is all”

Asagi shifted a little where he stood. There seemed to be something unspoken on his lips, but he kept it to himself.

“Well, I should probably get going”

Tsunehito waved a little awkwardly as Asagi left. He made a point to lock the door behind him.

He looked back to the flowers. There were five in all. Two were roses, the others he wasn’t sure about. As he gazed on the small vase, he failed to see Asagi look back in disappointment. Tsunehito had missed the point entirely.
