I just adore this! I like how you have John with a separation already from his family. Is that an award John won in his hand?

Thanks! Yeah, he's already pulling away. I wanted it to be easy to see already how different he and Dave are. I was thinking John won some sort of major Math award, but he figured it was no big. But Dave won Mr. Punctuality! Woohoo! Go Dave! lol.

This is wonderful! What a lovely picture. John is such a cuckoo child...

Is Dave the younger brother here or just awaiting his growth-spurt? The writers confirmed he was the older Sheppard after the ep aired.

"The writers confirmed he was the older Sheppard after the ep aired."

D'oh! I didn't know that! That's interesting. I guess I assumed John was the older since seemed like the Family expected him to take over the business and poor martyr Dave had to do it instead.

I decided to go off the actors' ages, so I guess this is an AU where Dave is 2 years younger. :-D

Thanks!!

I personally read John as the older brother and Dave as the younger brother, but then my position is that "canon" = "what we see on screen" and in the episode itself, it never says which brother is older. The writers say plenty of things that I think are nonsense, so whether I listen to them depends on whether I agree or not. :)

thefifthchevron, that's a fantastic family portrait! The style works for John so well, that kind of goofy, sweet charm.

I'm with you on older John. The dynamics between them just read that way to me. John was expected to take over, be in charge, pick up the mantle of the family and he left them behind. And Dave is bitter about it like a younger sibling who expects to do whatever they want and is suddenly shackled with all the responsibilities.

It'd be easy enough to think up scenarios why an older Dave felt that way, but older John was how I've always seen it when I've watched Outcast. Those silly sga writers, always pulling crap out of their.... *smirk*

And thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I love your description of John: goofy, sweet charm, and that I seemed to have pulled it off. Thanks! :D

This makes my heart hurt. But at the same time it's so pretty. I kind of want a cartoon with your character designs now, based on Sheppard's life. If it's an AU, it could be high school oriented, and everyone could be there.

eee ♥ John's hair!

Thanks!

Poor Ma Sheppard, the only thing keeping the family together. A cartoon of Shep's life? Oh boy, so much work. But it would be fun to draw everyone all teen-i-fied!

heee. had fun with the hair. had to look at the floppy flan hair for inspiration. a hardship for sure... :)

You've got me thinking. I could do a series of portraits. Do each of the main characters as a teenager, with their families. But not a High School AU, have them in their native environment. Like Ronon on Sateda, Teyla and her father, McKay and Jeannie. That might be kind of fun to do... Hmmm.

This is so cute! I love so many things about it. Like the facial expressions and the fact that it has lines on it like an older photograph. Do you envision this being the last family portrait because their mother dies shortly after? Or leaves the family (canon, to my knowledge, never mentions one way or the other). I also really like the clothing and hair on everyone.

Thanks! I had fun with the big 80's hair, shoulder pads and fat ties. :)

In my mind she dies that summer. I think I remember Joe Malozzi saying that in Remnants they cut a line where the alien tells John to stop blaming himself for what happened to his mother. So I guess I'm interpreting that as some sort of tragic accident where she dies and John either thinks he caused it, or thought he should have been able to save her and couldn't. Something like that...
