Lord, today, I am appalled and ask about your call on my life. Am I called to mobilize or am I called to go into the nations? You make the call. Right here, right now I have a passion to make it clear to America their responsibility with the Great Commission.
Am I called Lord to open eyes through writing? How closed are our eyes? I went to a well-known national chain Christian Bookstore that was large! Going through it, there was a tiny section devoted to evangelism-- perhaps 5-10 books and of that 2-3 book dealt with global missions.
I can read all I want to about End Times Prophecy and how to date and cute formatted devotions for whoever I am, but how marketable are books about serving others outside your my, state, and country in prayer, giving, and ministry? Yeah, like I'm going to pay money for that. Obviously it isn't popular. It isn't the book genre I hear about at a Christian Writers' convention. You'll rarely find it on the best seller's list.
Perhaps we'll find a people to admire who died for their faith, but the day in day and day out missions outside our neighborhood, you have to specially order. It's not a wise investment to stock missions books in your store.
But you will have the opportunity to check out an endless supply of the latest cutting edge expensive Christian music. And you will find a large section devoted to greeting cards and still another for giftbooks, but what about the Great Commission?
Matthew 28:1-20
"And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age."
We are commanded to go forth. We are commanded to seek His face on what we must do.
Proverbs 3:5-7
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord, and depart from evil."
You are America. Each one of you. The bookstore reflects to a degree what America prioritizes in Christianity. Will you stand idly by and complain, compare, or will you step out and take action living a more bold, fervent life for Christ in adherence with whatever His call may be for you.
