Ow. My body.

Ow. My legs.
Ow. My hips.
Ow. My back.
Ow. My right wrist.
Ow. My right knee.

Can you tell I went roller skating last night?

Things wot I used to be able to do comfortably:

• Skate in long sleeves and jeans and two pair of socks and not break a sweat.
• Skate for three hours and never feel it in my ankles.
• Skate for three hours, every song, and not need an asthma inhaler.
• Skate backwards with reasonable speed and, you know, balance.
• Understand all the words to all the songs the DJ played.
• Recognize all the songs the DJ played.
• Come to a complete stop and stay vertical.

Last night... slightly less with those.

• I was in a t-shirt and jeans and was hotter than hell.
• During the first half of the session I had to sit down every other song or so to rest my ankles. I think after that I got to that 'play through the pain' place. I am being punished for that this morning.
• I realized about half way to the interstate that I'd left my albuterol at home. I hacked in Catherfina's ear on the phone on the way home as a consequence. Not to mention the few 'damn I want to skate to this song... but cannot breathe' moments.
• I have crappy skates. I need to either a.) rent skates b.) get a pair of real speed skates and do this a lot more or c.) never do this again. Frighteningly, I'm leaning towards B. at the moment. I got the trucks loosened early on so I could, you know, turn corners, but they still weren't good enough skates for me to get any momentum given the really weird way I backwards skate.
• I want "iPod night" at the roller rink, 'cause this hip hop/R&B/whatthefuckwasthat? stuff they played most of last night? Not skate-able. They had a couple good songs during Cosmic Skate, but for the most part I couldn't even find the bass line to follow.
• I fell exactly 5 times. All of them were when I was either stopped and trying to move just a little bit or I was coming to a stop after not going very fast. 4 of them were over by the benches, not on the floor, which made me wonder if I was hitting bad patches of floor. Because seriously, I jumped over an 8 year old who fell right in front of me and kept going with no problem. But slow moving? Not so much with the balance. Oh, and there was that first spectacular fall, which was on the floor. I had to have looked like a cartoon. I felt my feet getting out in front of me and I knew I had no way of correcting and my heels and my ass hit the ground and the exact same time. Ow. I think that was the one that really did my wrist in. Although the subsequent 4 times after that probably didn't help.

I've spent since midnight rotating my one heating pad around the various aches and pains because in about 10 minutes I have to go get in the shower and get ready to go horseback riding. Why yes, I am a masochist, thanks for asking. Especially as some of the sorest muscles are the inside tops of my thighs - that being where you push from when you skate. Tomorrow morning is going to suck SO bad. I can put a thermapatch on my back if it's still acting up, but the rest of it? I'm just going hurt.
