So my life revolves around two years. The calendar year and the school year. Go figure, the school year is actually more important to me than the calendar year in terms of how I actually *run* my life.
But I'm really looking forward to the start of this calendar year.
On January 2nd I start my first full time teaching job since I entered *hell* in March of 2010. There are some weird hoops about how I'll be paid for the next three months (I'll be paid out of one bucket in January, a different bucket in February and then finally in March will become a Real girl employee.) Let me tell you something: If you've never been involuntarily unemployed for a long period of time, you probably don't realize how much of a grown up's identity is formed by what they do and having gainful employment. There were so *very* many things I didn't do - even if I could afford them - because one of the first questions adults ask each other is "What do you do?/Where do you work?" and wow, I didn't want to explain my life to people.
Anyway, 2012 is looking to start off awesome.
• Gaia is still alive and kicking Logi's butt. (She and Kári tend to give each other respectable space unless they're sleeping together.)
• I actually have New Years Plans to hang out with some awesome people tonight. (Normally around 9:30 I go "Happy New Year Me" and go to bed.)
• I start a new job January 2nd.
• I start graduate school on January 9th.
• I'll have a niece on January 10th.
• I'll be going to Nashville to meet her the following weekend (I'm no jet-setter or anything, but my family all lives south of the Mason-Dixon so I'm used to going to either Tennessee or Florida every three months or so, and I haven't gone anywhere since last March.)
• My Etsy has become a 'real business' - one that takes at least ten hours a week to run and (I realized a couple days ago) actually PAID MY RENT in December.
• My last car payment is due in March.
So... yeah. I'm pretty fucking pleased to see the backside of this year and really thinking that 2012 will kick it in the ass. Hard.
