• Kári is still trying to figure out how to fly three feet up hill. ETA: OMG, he made it! Now I want to see how far back I can move it and have him eventually figure it out. Kári! THE ASTOUNDING FLYING FERRET!
• I saw a truly *stupid* number of cops in my neighborhood and the neighborhood just west of mine where I went to the post office tonight. I mean, it was like every tenth car on the street was a cop. There wasn't one big incident like a crash or a shooting. But traffic stops and parking tickets and just driving down the street...
• I walked into my office after school and heard my aide say to another teacher, "I'm okay if *you're* gay, but -" and it took every ounce of "I don't want to go fifty rounds with this ... person... over this, I really don't" in me to not yell out, "No! There are no buts! Just NO! You just need to be okay with someone being gay. Full stop, no exceptions."
Topping it off was that her qualifier was "but you need to understand I am *not* that way, oh hell no." Which had me grabbing my bag and getting the hell out of Dodge before I started on the, "Yes, because clearly a.) every lesbian out there wants nothing more than to shag every single female in the world" and/or b.) "Every bisexual woman or lesbian I've ever met has WAY better taste than that, so you have absolutely nothing to worry about."
• The kid who was arrested and then suspended was due back today. His mom brought him in for his reinstatement meeting and he decided he didn't need to apologize to anyone and he didn't need to listen to his mother or answer anyone's questions or, you know, basically comply with anything... so his mother slapped him around in the office. (I was not there for this, but I have heard from many witnesses) and then when it was clear that he couldn't be reinstated today she took him outside and beat on him a lot more, right in front of the principal. Houston, I think I see the problem.
• Had a father shadow his child in my room for a while today. Child was all sunshine and smiles when he came in. Then I got to explaining to dad about how little work he's doing in class and the homework he never does (which amounts to read ten pages in a book of YOUR choosing and have your parent sign your reading log) and said child was in tears by the time dad left. This parent didn't touch his child - but he did talk to him and apparently a large number of privileges have been suspended indefinitely. I think Christmas was either threatened or cancelled.
• I have woken up between three and four every morning this week. Generally it is due to My-Nose-Hates-Me-I-Can't-Breathe-itis. And of course if I take Sudafed at that point I won't get back to sleep. If I take Benadryl at that point, I won't be able to drag my ass out of bed when my 5:15 alarm goes off. MY HEAD CAN BITE ME!
• It snowstormed for about 15 minutes today. And then the weather got over it and it was sunny again. Still cold-ish, but sunny.
