I am so freaking sick of the fact that unless you can live on raw, organic leeks and arrugala, you're doomed to eat unhealthy.
My dinner tonight? Chicken, noodles and milk.
When I was 12 this would have been hailed as Very Healthy. (I realize I'm missing a fruit/vegetable, but that was because I was eating peaches before dinner and didn't want more food than the chicken and noodles would be right at that moment.)
Now? I sat there staring at my plate going, "The chicken isn't breaded. It isn't fried. It's seasoned and prepared on the Foreman, so even more fat was squished out.
BUT OMG! THESE CHICKENS WERE TOTALLY JUICING, WEREN'T THEY? I'm probably all full of weird chemicals now! AND OMG! MEAT??? YOU BARBARIAN!
The entire package of noodles had a teaspoon of butter and some powdered sauce stuff, but the pouch it came in said 6% of the USRDA of fat per serving.
BUT OMG! WHITE FLOUR! GLUTEN! I'M GONNA DIE OF NOT!WHOLE GRAINS!
2% milk can't be bad for you, can it? It's not whole milk - it's only 2% of that fat level. And it has calcium and my mother already has osteopenia, so, you know...
BUT OMG! THERE'S AN AD OUT THERE TELLING ME 2% MILK IS AS UNHEALTHY AS A BAG OF FRENCH FRIES! And they wouldn't be able to run that ad if it were total bullshit, would they?
Does anyone still wonder why Americans are getting obese at record levels? We've given the fuck up. Nothing is healthy anymore. Nothing is categorically good for you. Nothing is 'safe'. So, you know... why try?
Oh, and by the way, next week? Research will prove everything that was true this week was completely fucked up and we'll have a whole new set of 'healthy guidelines'.
argh,
grr,
screw this,
food
