Pride Parade: Post #4 (All the stuff that didn't fit into one of the theme posts...)
Okay, so most of the stuff I've posted hasn't been photographically brilliant, but that's okay. A parade is an exercise in shooting as many moving targets as I possibly can.
But this one? Yeah, I kind of like it from an artistic perspective...
One of the funny things about standing at the rail with a large camera on a tripod? The people in the parade stop and pose for you, hoping that you're actually shooting for something important. :)
Our Grand Marshall was Chely Wright (as you can plainly see.) If you haven't heard, she's the country singer who recently came out.
Okay, I have to say, she looks hot in every good sense of the word in this shot. ;)
Okay, first of all, I didn't even realize there WAS still a Bozo the Clown. Second, I'm not sure how I feel about him being in the Gay Pride parade. It just makes me think of people who wanted to peg the toddler-esque Telletubbies as gay... like kids who can't even eat with a rounded-off fork are worried about who to sleep with...
And because it's still the biggest news in Chicago, the Stanley cup was there.
Apparently this guy is named "Sopel". Oddly in all the coverage I did see of the Hawks run for the cup, I don't remember his name. But it's not like I'm an avid fan or anything. The guy in white is the Cup's handler. No, seriously, this is his full time job - make sure the cup is handled with respect and, you know, not used as a soccer ball or something.
Okay, so this isn't actually anyone famous that I'm aware of, but when I saw her at first all I could think was, "When did Vala Mal Doran join Chicago's Dykes on Bikes???" Yes? Maybe?
Okay, this is the "Bisexual Superhero". I'm really not sure I want him as my mascot.
Okay, this shot is just here to prove that my camera is kind of awesome... it can stop the blades of a flying helicopter. Now *that's* a fast shutter. :)
It does pretty good with things on the ground too. ROTC...

Okay, this float is there every year. I can't decide if the Water Rec District is really making the double entandre it looks like they are, of if they're collectively so clueless they don't realize what a bunch of people at a Gay Pride parade will think they're referencing.
Pretty awesome, eh? I wonder if she would have ever seen something like this parade coming when she was my age (late 30's).
Okay, so there's a ton of law enforcement officers who march in the parade. We're given to believe that they are the actual GLBT folks who serve. Which makes me want to caption this shot, "Gay Police Officer Shoots Back at Parade Crowd". :) And if anyone is curious to know what my camera looks like? It's that one right there, I'm pretty sure. :)
I. Want. This. T-shirt. This was what all the Google folks were wearing. Gay robots for the WIN!
I'm not precisely sure what to say about two girls who declare themselves crime scenes...
Okay, this guy was part of the group from a 'brain game' store. What kills me about this... check out the elastic on the underpants on his brain. Like they were just available off the shelf or something?
Okay I was in a cotton tank top and cotton shorts and *I* passed out. How the hell is this guy conscious?
