The Lake House

I saw The Lake House starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock this weekend. I advise two things: go into it with complete acceptance that there is no logic when it comes to the paradox of time travel and that it’s a love story above all.

With me, those things are enough. I am a romantic at heart. I have been and always will be a sucker for romance despite impossible, improbable and illogical odds. Even if the romance doesn’t end happily, the love was real.

I prayed that Cary Grant would realize that Ingrid Bergman was in mortal danger and his love for her would override his pride in Notorious.

Even though it looked like they were going to die, I loved that Humphrey Bogart asked the German Nazi captain to marry him to Katherine Hepburn before their execution in The African Queen.

Sure I knew Jack and Ennis’ romance would end sadly but it was still truly one of the most romantic loves to see unfold.

When it looked like it was impossible for Mr. Darcy to marry Ms. Bennett, love still won out.

What can I say? I am totally romance’s bitch. *g*

That said, I really I liked The Lake House. It was a movie that really showed people in love and the depths of that love. Because for me, it’s all about the emotional aspect and the love that develops. I recommend seeing it.

Oh and while I’m confessing dark secrets…I really like Keanu Reeves. Always have. Saw him for the first time in a movie called Permanent Record, where his best friend committed suicide and the aftermath that has on everyone. Liked him ever since.

Tune in next time…when I mention my guilty pleasure movies…The Wedding Singer and Overboard!
