"Movie night is like a tradition with us," Xander had explained. "Post patrol, we hang, we eat, we laugh at stupidty." And then he had taken her hand and sounded amusingly seductive. "There could be popcorn."
And that was how Anya found herself watching Magnolia, a very strange movie that didn't make sense to her most of the time. It seemed like a stupid tradition. Her head fell into that comfortable nook between his neck and his shoulder, while Buffy sat on the floor in front of Riley, leaning her head back against his knees. Riley was smiling, stroking her hair softly.
On the soft chair next to the couch, Willow frowned at the movie, throwing some popcorn at the screen. "This is why I'm gay now."
Tara looked up at her from the floor. "Because of Tom Cruise?"
Anya could feel Xander smile. "I can see the headlines now: Tom Cruise makes women gay."
Buffy laughed. "I think it's more because of the look-at-me-I-have-a-penis character. I mean, way to set back women empowerment by decades there."
"You're still the most empowered woman I know," Riley said, rubbing her shoulders.
"Better not forget it," she turned, smiling up at him.
"I don't know, there's something to be said about his character." He leaned forward, forcing Anya to sit up again, and grabbed the box of donuts. "How to tame women. That's a class a lot of men would take if it worked."
"Watch it there, Xander, or this woman will show you how tame she can be." Buffy threw a mock punch at him.
Anya watched him while he took two donuts out of the box. "There was a demon that taught a course like that."
"Really?" Xander said, a smirk on his face. "Did the women rebel?" He held the two donuts in front of him like a puppet theater. "Respect the cruller and tame the donut!"
Buffy leaned forward and bit the end off the cruller harshly. Anya laughed. "It ended more like that."
The men winced in sympathetic pain, while the women laughed. Xander leaned back, putting his arm around his girl and handing her the donut.
"Respect the donut," she said.
Xander nodded emphatically. "Always respect the donut."
Anya leaned back against him, smiling at the donut in her hand. She decided movie night wasn't so bad after all.

I totally expected just screencap icons from movie nights that Buffy and crew have done. Not actually quotes from my fic.
