Yes, I know it's been forever since I posted, but a year-end meme is as good an opportunity to restart as anything, right?

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
I learned to make gifs and graphics for castleland and made a couple of videos for a media workshop at school.

2. Did you keep the new years resolutions you made last year?
I didn't really make any resolutions, but I did start (and not finish) a goal setting program developed by kathrynrose. Maybe I should pick it up again this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A whole bunch of teachers at school (the science department is going through a serious breeding spell), but no family members.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
A former student was killed, but I hadn't seen him in a long time.

5. What countries did you visit?
None.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Effective leadership from our school administration.

7. What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?
The marathon bombing. It had such a profound effect on the remainder of our school year. And the blizzard but to a lesser extent.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Huh. Good question. Maybe starting to bike regularly to work.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting more sleep

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Except for a nasty stomach bug this past weekend, nothing beyond the basic aches and pains of being over forty.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmm...I'm not sure. Maybe my new computer, but see #13

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My kids and family for managing transition to middle school and high school.
Our brand new teacher we hired two days before school started to take over for asshole physics teacher
My co-teacher and the other awesome colleagues who have joined the happiness squad she and I started about a month ago.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Whoever stole my computer two days after I bought it
The marathon bombers
My principal

14. Where did most of your money go?
Probably mortgage, food and plane tickets

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Our April vacation trip to Florida with booknsnail
Our Wisconsin Dells trip with my MN family

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Hmmm...I've been listening to a lot of Carbon Leaf, but other than that...

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? About the same
b) thinner or fatter? Probably fatter. I had lost most of the weight I had put on recently, but then I started the holiday baking. :)
c) richer or poorer? About the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hanging out and playing games

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Trying to figure out how to help the school administrators do their jobs.

20. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Well, stayed in love. :)

21. How many one-night stands?
Silly question

22. What was your favorite TV program?
I am really loving The Good Wife, Scandal and Nashville. And of course, Castle. I also loved discovering Doctor Who and Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. with the whole family.

24. Do you dislike anyone now that you didn't dislike this time last year?
Not really

25. What was the best book you read?
I think probably Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. I've read that trilogy and the one that followed it and really liked them all. I also just reread Outlander and am really, really looking forward to the Starz series.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
None

27. What did you want and get?
A new bike

28. What did you want and not get?
An effective school administration

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Probably either Thor 2 or Much Ado About Nothing

30. What did you do on your birthday?
Rode my brand new bike to school and back and then watched the Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. premiere with my kids.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I keep coming back to it, but a more effective school administration. :)

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
I think this sums it up: I found these awesome pants. I would wear them all the time if I could but I do have to go to work.

33. What kept you sane?
My family and D., my co-teacher

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmmm...no one really stands out.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Marriage equality

36. Who did you miss?
castleland and all the people I met there, especially callsign_buzz

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Probably D., the new physics teacher

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
Spend more time having fun
