Only the person who almost got injured wasn't either of my kids, but rather was Kelley. Saturday started out like most every day for me in the month of April...that is "Get up early, go into the office and put in a full day of work." Considering it was going to be sunny at near 80...oh joy!
Once I got home from work, Kelley asked the 3 of us to go out to one of the local malls to find a patio umbrella that was on sale. Once we got into the mall, we headed to the escalators to go to the 2nd floor of this store.
One quirk about me (and every parent, really) is that I'll tell my boys everytime we go on one of these things that they should "Stand in the middle, and tie your shoes so the laces don't get caught". I certainly don't do this most places we go out to, and why escalators is one of them, I don't know.
I step off the escalator and get ready to head to the restroom, when Kelley's sandal is stuck underneath the teeth at the top of the escalator! My first instinct was to try to pull the sandal out, but after one try that wasn't going to work. Luckily, her sandal was loose enough to where I could pull the strap down (without unhooking it) and free her foot that way in a couple of seconds - but that was a scary couple of seconds for all of us, for sure.
Kelley was pissed off the rest of the evening because her $10 pair of sandals got ruined, but she also knows that she's lucky that this was all the damage that was done, as well.
Oh yeah, and we never did get that patio umbrella since they had nothing in the color we wanted...fukkers!
