Revisiting 2015, Part 2

Jan 04, 2016 22:31

2014 was such a great year for film that it was impossible for 2015 to top it (three of my favorite films this year even were technically from 2014 and just took their time to be released here), but it still delivered a lot of good stuff, I didn't even have to pick one of the Marvel offerings (which I both enjoyed) to fill out my Top 20. And once again I agonized for ages over the order and doubt it's correct, the Top 6 are basically interchangeable.

Favorite New Face.

Alicia Vikander played completely different characters in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Ex Machina. The latter alone would have won her this category.

Runner-up:

Cute and funny Dylan Minnette

Favorite On-Screen Duo.

Mae Whitman and Robbie Amell have FANTASTIC chemistry in The Duff

Favorite 2014 Movie That Still Hasn't Come To Germany.

Trend of the Year: Kingsman, Spy, Man from UNCLE, Mission: Impossible 5, Bridge of Spies, Spectre - we had a lot more spies than superheroes on the screens.

Biggest Disappointment of the Year.

At least it looks gorgeous, but it's kinda dull.

Runner-up: Magic Mike XXL

Guiltiest Pleasure of the Year.

I know it's only a middling effort from him, but it's still Joe Dante, starring Anton Yelchin. I can't help loving it!

Most Underrated Movie of the Year.

Closer in spirit to Gremlins than Jumanji, Goosebumps is a very funny, very entertaining family thrill-ride.

Promising 2015 movies that I didn't catch in time so I couldn't evaluate them.
Carol. Mistress America. The Lost Rooms. Brooklyn. Wild Tales.

Best Movie I Never Want To See Again.

Best Short of the Year.

Worst Short of the Year: Pixar's Lava

The Single Worst Movie of the Year.

Runner-up: Tomorrowland

The One Movie I Loved But I Can't Be Objective About It.

Well, it's the Peanuts. The film is very good, but I would have loved it anyways.

And now...

My Favorite Movies of the Year (based on enjoyment and rewatchability).
