Werewolf transformations are really just a metaphor for unwanted public boners.

I'm pretty much in love with Teen Wolf right now, to the point where I would call it my most important fandom since early 2007 with its double treat of Skins' and Heroes' first seasons. Let's hope it doesn't crash and burn like those two, but so far the second season is even crazier and gayer and awesomer than the first. I just wish it was a little bit less serialized, I really prefer the Buffy-model of having both a different weekly threat and an ongoing narrative in every episode. (Tower Prep was also good at this. I still miss it.)

Speaking of Buffy, Teen Wolf cemented its place as the official successor two weeks ago when the first official Teen Wolf tie-in novel came out, even written by Nancy Holder who's responsible for over a dozen Buffy books.

"On Fire" is a quick and, sadly, totally unnecessary read. Not that it isn't enjoyable for Teen Wolf-fans, but thanks to the still ongoing heavy serialization of the show it's just too difficult to come up with interesting stand-alone stories. This one is set on a single day during Season 1 and since the bestiary of the show is not fully developed yet, the two main plotlines are the mundane human threat of a gang of burglars and flashbacks to the time when Kate Argent seduced a teenage Derek, which isn't exactly the historical gap that desperately needed to be filled. However, there are a few gems hidden on its pages, so here are my favourite quotes for your general amusement:

Best double entendres:

"Yes," Lydia huffed. "Jackson loves me to water his plants."

***

Then, as he plodded through the water, he could feel himself begin to wolf. He was too excited. He had to calm down. But how could a sixteen-year-old guy calm down when a beautiful woman like Ms. Argent wanted to get to know him? Stop, stop, he ordered himself. He made himself stay in the water until he was sure the wolf shift had reversed itself, and then scrambled out of the pool.

***

The thought of the juicy meat in her mouth excited him.

Best descriptions of Derek:

Derek did another set of push-ups. His back and chest were glistening with sweat and his arm muscles were aching.

***

Kate Argent sighted down the brand-new Uzi submachine gun as her brother Chris and the other hunters unloaded the fresh cache of weapons from the black panel van and stored them in the Argents' garage. The Uzi was a little piece of heaven. Nothing beat the feel of cold, hard steel - unless it was the rippling muscles of a well-built man. Smirking, she thought of Derek's naked torso, how well he filled out his jeans. His piercing eyes, those eyebrows she used to trace so fondly; and that five o'clock shadow and sexy bad-boy pout. She highly doubted that Chris knew she and two of his guys had paid Derek a little visit yesterday. God, all those muscles.

***

Still in wolf face, Derek flung himself to the dirt, rolling around, then ripped off the jacket in shreds, bringing his shirt with it. Like Scott, he was naked from the waist up.

Best Stiles moment:

"Derek!" Stiles shouted into the woods. "Scott checked in!" There was no answer. "Damn it, Derek. You know what you're getting for Christmas, right? A cell phone. So don't devour the Claus when he comes down that chimney," Stiles grumbled.

Most ironic moments given what happened in Season Two:

Her mom had been angry, too, but Allison could tell that if it had been left up to her, she wouldn't have been as harsh about having to stay in all weekend. Her mom liked Scott.

***

In the world of high school, cars were like portable bedrooms. Except (Scott) didn't want their first time to be in a car.

Most obvious flashback to Scott's childhood to make clear that his father was an asshole:

"I'm getting mixed messages," his father said to his mom, who looked up from her purse and saw that his dad had hold of Scott's wrist. "First we don't have enough money to pay for cable. But we have enough money for Scott's inhaler."

Best description of Danny:

There were few people in the world tougher than lacrosse goalies - and Danny was the toughest. Danny put the M in macho, that was for sure.

A little gay romance:

As Jackson's best friend, Danny had been to his extravagant home before, but the splendor was all new to Damon. Standing beneath the skylight in the living room, he looked at Danny with newfound respect, and Lydia concealed a grin. She was happy to help Danny with his romance, in her own small way.
(...) She showed them the packet of glow-in-the-dark condoms she had purchased Jackson for last Valentine's Day. He had refused to use them. Tonight he would. She'd make sure of that. "Have you ever tried these?" she asked, showing them to the guys. Damon guffawed, and Danny grinned. "Want a sample in case you decide to play the home version?" "Pass," Danny said, and Lydia supposed it would be some sort of violation of the man code to use your best friend's condoms.
(...) "Are you looking through his stuff?" Danny queried, and she gave him her best patronizing look. "Please," she said. "You must know that I have a drawer here."
"Do you think we're ready for a drawer?" Damon murmured to Danny, and she smiled to herself again.

And finally, the truth of life:

Everyone wanted something Jackson had. It was usually money or popularity. The secret? They were exactly the same thing.
