National Lampoon's Dublin Vacation, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

May 21, 2010 16:40

On Saturday morning the pubs re-stocked their alcohol while Eduard and I took the bus to Howth which is a fishing village just a half-hour drive away from Dublin's city center.

When we got off the bus, we walked a few feet and then had this stunning view:

Despite my bad hair day...

...which drove me CRAZY...

...we followed a path that led us to a spot without any tourists: a hidden cove right between the rocks of the cliff. It was one of the most beautiful, most serene places I've ever seen.

We really were the only people there. Not counting the two dogs who were down there and wanted to play with us.

After about twenty minutes, another family arrived with a third dog (and strangely enough, they were German as well) so we went back into town, the cove got too crowded.

Eduard then ate something expensive in a restaurant. I wasn't hungry since I had a big Irish breakfast that morning, you know, ham & eggs & sausages & such, I couldn't eat anything for the next nine hours.

So we went down the hill to the harbour of Howth which looked like this:

We spent the next two hours at the pier and we both got a sunburn there. Yes, the weather was that fantastic that day.

Some tiny island two miles off the shore, called "Ireland's Eye".

We then took the bus back to the city center where I had a Burger King meal and bought a DVD boxset of all four seasons of Coupling. Yay!

Since we had to get up at three in the night to catch our very early flight, we returned to the hotel around eight and went straight to bed - where we watched old episodes of Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Friends on E4.

So, that was our trip. Tomorrow we'll be off to Budapest, more about that next week. I leave you with this random shot of a drainage channel:
