kung fu saved my life part III

I was attacked and robbed today or I should say they *tried* to rob me. There were 4 of them. I was able to fend them off, but in the struggle one of them grabbed my flashlight out of my coat pocket. As I broke free the flashlight fell into the street.

I ran to a main intersection to an open spot. When they heard me yelling "POLICE" they turned around and didn't follow. I then turned around and followed them. I was not going to let them get away with it.

I called the police, got in the squad and within 20 min of the initial attack, the perps were captured and ID'd.

I only suffered a busted lip from a single initial unannounced sucker punch. The perp that did it busted up his hand on my face. That's how he was ID'd as the main perp. If there is one thing I can truly say I've learned in all the years of kung fu, it's how to take a punch. It hurt but it did not curtail my abilities in any way.

As much as I would love to write about kicking the crap out of 4 robbers, I think I responded in the way I was taught by all my mentors, sizing up the situation and acting in the way that yielded the best results.

The bad guys lost, my lip will heal in a week and my flashlight if I don't find it is still replaceable ($24US). Chicago's finest were stellar in how quickly they responded. The officer commended me for sticking around, following the thugs, leading to their arrest and criminal charges filed. He said too many times people don't press charges and these guys continue to do these things b/c nothing happens to them.

The guy that hit me in the face has a long enough rap sheet that he will go away. Robbery is a felony in Illinois. In the end, I am satisfied with the outcome.
