Toronto Long Weekend

Jun 02, 2010 08:42

I'm really liking these weekend jaunts to Toronto. I fly into YYZ on AA using my miles and fly out of YTO on Porter. ~3.5hours door-to-door on Porter.

The CAD dollar is super strong right now. If I were Canadian, I'd be gobbling up GBP and Euros and saving them for a rainy day.

Friday, we just had a nice evening of Pizza & wine. OMG, Daiya Cheese on vegan pizza is simply the best. It's the best vegan cheese out there. We rented a Korean Vampire flick called "Thirst", which was erm..super weird, but we both passed out 1/2 way through the film.

Saturday, we met up with Todd, who loaned me a bicycle and we rode for about 2 hours (25km) stopping for Indian food & sorbet. In the evening, Laura & I went to "heartbeat" a tabla/Kathak performance which was pretty amazing. There were a total of 8 tabla players on stage. I like Kathak, it's very aggressive and sharp, especially the super fast twirls.

Sunday was Pilates, which was pretty painful. Laura's instructor Warren was ribbing me about being 40 and washed up, but was doing so in a funny way that made everyone laugh while we were all in pain. I thleoroughly enjoyed the pilates class. It was pretty challenging. I think it would really complement my kung fu.

In the afternoon, Laura's bllydancing troupe "Serpentina North" had a performance the Kennsignton Pedestrian Sunday street fair. I have to say, they totally rocked it. They were so tight and well choreographed, and they were "FUN and ENGAGiING" which really got the crowd going. The proof was in the green tip hat; they made almost $70 in 15 minutes. Afterward, we went off to celebrate with pitchers of white wine sangria, mojitos and vegan empinadas.sh

Monday was lunch with Laura @Fresh, and more bicycle riding. I nearly bit it, when a dumb hummer pulled out of a parking space without signalling, forcing me into the sterrtcar rail, I quickly turned out of it so I wouldn't fall over, but bent the back rim. Apparently, there are douchebag drivers in Canada too, but he might have been American, esppecially with a dumb Hummer. Luckily, the nearby bike shop trued the tire in 15min for $20. All in all, it was afantastic weekend.

Toronto has been very good to me. The more I visit the more I like it, ok Laura has a lot to do with that, ;)
