Nocturna was great. There were about 600 people again. The costumes weren't that great. GG Allin was the best costume IMO, but dumb Edward Scissorshand won again. So cliched. This year I was bumblebee man from the Simpsons. I never enter the contest, b/c my official job is to heckle contestants, which I can't do if I'm on stage.
Anyway, I come from the "Ralph Cramden School of Costume Design" and all my costumes follow these general rules:
0). [1]If an average 11 year-old cannot make it, then the costume is useless!!!
1). More than 50% of the raw materials must come from a thrift store
2). At least one item must come from a hardware store.
3). NO SEWING!!!! Duct tape, solder, epoxy, glue gun, staples, and safety pins are all acceptable.
4). Total cost must be less than $40US.
5). Total time from concept to finished product must be ~1 day.
6). IT DOES NOT HAVE TO MAKE SENSE!!! The more you puzzle people with your brilliance, the better.
This Year's Costume:
I wnt a little over budget b/c I bought a pair of Chuck Taylors, but I can always use another pair of gym shoes. The headpiece was made out of woman's hair thing drilled to fit two wood screws which mounted 1ft sections of 300VAC 3 phase Cable with painted styrofoam balls. The shorts, shirt I got at a thrift store and painted the stripes. I was wearing a pillow to make me look round. I made the stinger out of a foam cone wrapped in a stocking. The wings were made out of foam pipe insulation tubing, little wooden sticks and of course Duct Tape.
